You don't know much about UK politics? In this election the Tories pledged to increase NHS funding, offer 30hrs/week for childcare, lend gov't assistance to people to buy homes and increase funding to protect the environment. As a party the Tories still support the welfare state despite their focus on austerity measures, and (and as one example) led the charge to legalize gay marriage.

They're outright progressive compared to you.

It is odd that there has been no mention of this surprise result anywhere here despite the UK being supposedly Americas closest ally. Here in the UK the minutae of US political campaigns is dissected and analysed ad nauseam and usually years before US polling day

Its also quite bizarre when you contrast that with the sound and fury generated on the forum by elections in Israel

Are the storm clouds bigger or smaller than had SNP been in government? They'd certainly have demanded more devolved power during the formation of the government.

Besides you all survived a referendum with Conservatives in Westminster. I'd imagine the Lib Dems had pull, but not THAT much pull.

Which I think goes to show just how far Right American Conservatism is, and how middle-of-the-road American moderate Democrats are.

(though the American Right would like to elucidate a different portrayal)

Yes but given that this is very much major breaking news I'm surprised it has recieved no mention when by contrast every firework that the Palestinians shoot over the wall at Israel gets instant mass posting and multiple threads

Things may get interesting if the Tories follow-through on withdrawing from the EU!

Clearly, "conservative" has a different meaning in the UK than it does in America.

But didn't the Scots just have their secession vote and vote to stay in the UK?

Basically the older Brits outvoted the young ones to get themselves more benefits that the next generation is going to have to pay for.

Nobody in modern countries is as staunchly regressive as the American right wing.
