NSA collection of phone info illegal, court rules[W:25]

Re: Federal Court: Bulk Collection Of Phone Metadata Is Illegal

Good start. Now, let's repeal the rest of the so called "Patriot Act" and restore the Fourth Amendment. Perhaps when we're through, we can start on the Fifth, maybe even the Tenth.
Yeah!

Run for Pres, buddy - you've got mu vote!

Re: Federal Court: Bulk Collection Of Phone Metadata Is Illegal

We have to stay vigilante though. The Democratic and Republican politicians hate the American people and the Constitution. They may continue to find a way to strike at us with new legislation. The PATRIOT ACT was one of many attacks against us.

No, the PA was just an electronic upgrade of the FISA Act which you have been living under since Jimmy Carter was POTUS. And by that I mean an adjustment to cope with the new reality of the information/computer age.

I don't think our politicians hate us or the constitution. The house critters are largely firmly stuck in district politics, as they should be, that's by design. Even though nationally they may look like raving loons. The senate critters are invested in their careers and legacies more than their country for the most part.

Re: Federal Court: Bulk Collection Of Phone Metadata Is Illegal

please read what was responding to.

PS still waiting on my 2500 premium reduction instead of the 50% plus increase I have had in the past 2 years.

My premiums went down, my deductible was cut in half and my pre-existing is no longer a factor. But as per the Mod warning, to the op, I'm delighted with the ruling.

Your pre-existing used to be a factor?

Re: NSA collection of phone info illegal, court rules

Why would conservatives be outraged? This is something that has only gotten worse under Obama.

Worse how?

Re: Federal Court: Bulk Collection Of Phone Metadata Is Illegal

And what moron would wish to do that?

The ACA was enacted to increase the quality and affordability of health insurance, lower the uninsured rate by expanding public and private insurance coverage, and reduce the costs of healthcare for individuals and the government. It introduced mechanisms like mandates, subsidies, and insurance exchanges.[1][2] The law requires insurance companies to cover all applicants within new minimum standards and offer the same rates regardless of pre-existing conditions or sex.[3] Additional reforms were increased competition, regulation, and incentives to streamline the delivery of healthcare. In 2011 the Congressional Budget Office projected that the ACA would lower both future deficits[4] and Medicare spending.

And yet, for many of us, it hasnt done that. We pay a ****load every month for NOTHING and a deductible of $6000 if we're lucky, but others get their health care...actual care...for free. How nice. And fair. And practical. /sarcasm. And useless for actual health care for us. Until there is a disaster.

Have you read the Patriot Act? It did alot more then that.

McConnell wants the Patriot Act passed without change. And he will get just that in the Senate. Though the House is always anyone's guess .

That and trying to make the other party look even worse than their own.

We should throw pitchforks at both parties. Remember who signed the damn act in the first place?

Re: NSA collection of phone info illegal, court rules

Conservatives will be outraged at this ruling defending American privacy no doubt.

We will?

Well they are coming out to defend it...
McConnell, GOP defend NSA

"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and other top Republicans on Thursday defended the National Security Agency’s surveillance program as vital to protecting national security.

McConnell and other Republicans also starkly criticized legislation that would effectively end the NSA’s bulk phone records collection program.

McConnell said that the USA Freedom Act, which would change the NSA program, would damage national security by allowing “untrained corporate employees” to collect phone data.

The bill would rein in the NSA by ending its current collection practices. To obtain data, the NSA would have to ask private companies for a narrow set of phone records that are involved in a particular case. The NSA would no longer hold the records itself.

McConnell criticized this as placing “a wall” between the NSA and the data. "

Hey fun, Obama defends the NSA as well, that must mean all Democrats and liberals love the NSA spying as well!!

I said conservatives. Most people in the modern GOP are not conservative. They are hyper-religious liberals.

Have you signed up for PPACA? I did, and it's working better then what is had.

That whole color-coded "terror threat" went hand in hand with surveillance. Now the repubs will be quick to defend this spying on americans as vital to security, but it's just the usual fear mongering.

As far as the court's decision that congress didn't intend for this program, well i suppose not since congress didn't even read the damn bill before voting for it

They never read what they vote on. Most of these bills are filled with crap that isn't even associated with the bill, if we required Senators and Representatives to actually have any clue what they were voting for, the country wouldn't be in the mess that it is.

Yup, junior staffers.

Re: NSA collection of phone info illegal, court rules

The court made the right decision. Its hard to say whether the Supremes will agree. The supporters of the Patriot Act may be right that ending the practice of phone data collection may increase the risk of more terrorism. If you value freedom you have to accept some risk.

yeah but i swear that after 9/11 they could just slap the label "patriot act" on literally anything and it would pass without congress reading it. Could've been a "patriot act" mandating that everyone eats a serving of cow dung each day and it'd pass

It continues under obama because no politician wants to be blamed if a terror attack took place *after* the spying program was reigned in. It's always about covering their asses

Re: NSA collection of phone info illegal, court rules

Thanks for proving my point and ignoring that "foot in the door" principle.

You DO realize that Obama has been in the White House for 7 years, right?

Well we kind of know that it's only deterred a single and very indirect act of terrorism. In exchange for billions of private phone calls and emails being spied on by NSA perverts, a "do not fly" list of 50k, and a terrorist watch list of *1 million*, we have prevented....some loser in california donating $12,000 to al qaeda.

I would bet that everything i listed is illegal as well, since there's no trial process or appeals or court order. It's certainly not becoming of a country that claims to value liberty

NSA collection of phone info illegal, court rules - WTOP

This is hot off the presses.... USAToday and Politico is corroborating the story. Ultimately the vast collection of big data which is being collected for possible use in the future, is not legal according to the 2nd Circuit appeals court. IMO it never was and is lazy and unconstitutional. Let's see if this gets escalated further and finally ends up on the SCOTUS desk.

Meantime Congress and 3 letter agencies want to try Snowden and put him under the jail while no one responsible for the decisions in the OP will face a moment of court time.

Yes, and why don't we do that? Because we keep sending the smart ass or the dumb elephant to office.
