Saudi Arabia foils U.S. Embassy attack, arrests 93 suspects

    April 28, 2015

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) Saudi Arabia on Tuesday announced the arrest of 93 suspects with ties to the Islamic State group who it says were planning multi-pronged attacks on the U.S. Embassy, security forces and residential compounds where foreigners live. The timing of the alleged attack coincides with a U.S. decision to halt all consular services for a week starting March 15 at the embassy and diplomatic missions in Jiddah and Dhahran over security fears. The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh is located in a large and heavily guarded compound with other embassies. The embassy is surrounded by fortified barriers and guarded by police, and a U.S. Marine checks visitor passes inside.
The Saudi's have experienced a marked uptick in plots/attacks by AQ and IS since the first of the year. Most are targeting Shia in the Kingdom to incite internal sectarian strife.

True and the situation in the whole are has deteriorated to the point, where the House of Saud could go under. But there have been bomb attacks on American facilities in SA for decades and the country is relatively well under control.

Not near as much of this type of thing during the days of Hussein, Mubarak Gaddafi and Assad's containment of extremists. Sure let that genie out of the bottle.

Way back in the 80s the Saudis made a deal with the hard line islamos that if the Wahhabis left them alone the Saudis would fund the expansion of radical islam around the world. The king must have missed a payment or this is a lie to make the Saudis look like they are helping.

When our new Republican president opens up drilling on federal lands and water we can drop the Saudis from our most needed list.

Fossile fuel independence has never been needed more in the US and it will continue to increase as long as the religious nut jobs in the ME continue to foment instability in the region.
I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on whats being proposed here, hed agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute. - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

I do not for one second take the word of the Saudi government that they foiled anything.

Maybe they did - but I ain't believing that pathetic regime without unbiased, outside proof of their claim.

For all I know, they wanted to round up some political enemies and used this excuse as the justification.

No matter what...you have to be (IMO) staggeringly naive to believe a government (including the U.S. Gov't.) when they say they foiled a terrorist attack - especially when it puts them in s good light.

Re: Saudi Arabia foils U.S. Embassy attack, arrests 93 suspects

Further clarification by the Saudis reveal that 93 have been arrested since December ... not one mass arrest yesterday. Two Syrians living in a Gulf State and a Saudi national are being held in a plot to bomb the US embassy. They were arrested sometime in March.

On March 15, the US closed its embassy in Riyadh and its consulates in Jeddah and Dhahran for a week citing security concerns. This seems to coincide exactly with the Saudi chronology.
