Hi Chomsky!
I tried to make my response easily readable. My responding points are below your points, in bold:

Ah, but the question here is not one of the deceased's (admittedly extensive) criminal record, but of possible police wrong-doing.
Which appears very reasonable on the surface, but there are concerns as to the accuracy of the results. If you think that ALL of the facts will not be presented, you are being naive. Relevancy will be decided by potential jurors.
There is a groundswell of lack-of-faith in our police & their ability to investigate themselves, along with structural defects in the legal system with regards to police activity. This is growing in perception to be the greater problem - not a problem of a 'rotten apple', but one of structural defects, including in the investigative/prosecutorial mechanisms. What needs to be accurate?
This is your opinion. Not mine. You are placing all the fault on that of the authorities.
To follow your train of thought, what "corrections" need to be made to the structure or the legal mechanisms?
