Libby had nothing to do with outing Plame, and the person who did so was never charged. So Libby's sentence was far more than a wrist slap and very likely unjust

Libby had much to do with the attempted cover up, was charged and duly convicted of it, but that pos decider took him off the hook, so in the end he was wrist slapped like betraus.

You mean purposefully leaked things with no legal repercussions yet deems it necessary to hypocritically go after Petraeus for letting his willy cloud his judgement.

    Good to know.
“I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on what’s being proposed here, he’d agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute.” - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

    Good to know.
Yes, of course it bothers me, and I've been watching it in both parties all my life. The problem with true partisans such as yourself, is that it's only observed in the opposing party. And so it's partisans that ensure perpetuation of the dual standards we see in both parties. And if it's good to know that I'm not a partisan, then stop calling me one.

There was nothing to cover up. The name of the person who leaked Plame's name was known before Libby was ever interviewed. The leak itself wasn't even a crime, so Libby was convicted of allegedly covering up something that wasn't illegal. So no, he didn't get a slap on the wrist

It's kind of a republican thing.

Libby is the highest-ranking White House official convicted in a government scandal since John Poindexter, the national security adviser to President Ronald Reagan in the Iran–Contra affair.[13]

Okay, sorry for that. I jumped to a wrong conclusion. Please accept my apologies.

I think Snowden's a bit of a hero for free speech and transparency. I suspect those are two things that are a bit out of fashion these days.

    No worries.

Free speech does not include the right to release classified documents. Transparency and classified programs is kinda problematic. While I agree that better oversight(judicial branch oversight) is needed, allowing people to on their own judgement decide what the public should know strikes me as a poor solution.

In the absence of that better oversight, what's the alternative to people using their own judgement? Silence? Letting the government get away with flouting the law, the constitution?
