Freddie Gray Was Injured in Police Van, Baltimore Officers’ Lawyer Says

Everything you just said is garbage. It reminds me of a survey taken of white people in the 1950s or 60s where the majority of respondents said that black people were treated equally to white people. Talk about clueless. If what you said was correct - if it was just about resisting police violence - then white people who "resist" would be treated the same as black people who do so, but they aren't.

You're part of the problem and, at your age, I think it's too late for education. I certainly don't have the patience. If you have grand-kids, maybe they'll be patient enough to teach you something. More likely, your generation will just die out so we can get better as a society.

Interesting.

First you ask for a conversation about why I believe what I do then, when I give the answer, you simply dismiss everything I said as "garbage". That kind of makes having any decent conversation pretty damned difficult.

It all kind of makes me think that you really don't want to have a conversation at all and what you really want is to rant, lecture or simply wallow around in your own self pity.

You keep asking this question and it seems to the root of your cluelessness so I'll just respond to this.

Anti-white racism is not endemic in this police system nor in the country as a whole so why the **** would white deaths be relevant to a conversation about racism related police violence. They wouldn't. If you don't get that, you are part of the problem. As far as I can tell, activists are trying to educate folks like you. Hopefully, they'll get to you soon.

In your myopic view only the deaths of black folks as a result of white police actions matter. I fully get that point yet that accounts for (so far) 4 very questionable deaths out of about 450 (annual) deaths caused by police action but without any proof of racial bias/motive. You have yet to show any evidence of racism - unless you consider a mere racial difference between perp/victim to be the all important factor.

Seriously? A restrained person in a police van simply gets up? Was he Houdini or something?

I do not know how it works in the US, but from what I see from English police shows they are stuck in a cell in a van, they are not chained to the floor and I would hope that also does not happen in US police vans. Getting up with handcuffs is not that difficult I would admit and in most vans you can stand up if you want to.

By blaming police violence against black people on aggressiveness by black people, you're excusing and justifying the violence. You may not want to believe that you are, but if you weren't, there would have been no need to include that comment. Such a comment about white "passiveness" has literally nothing to do with how frequent this is.

When did I blame blacks?

When did I blame blacks?
When are you going to provide the source I asked for? Or is your silence a tacit admission that your comment about white people being more passive than black people was just you being casually racist?

It's amazing how people like you just casually throw out comments like "white people are generally more passive" like it's just an accepted truth and when you are asked to provide evidence of your BS, you ignore the request and respond EXCLUSIVELY to other comments made by the poster asking you for the evidence. And, to make it worse, you pretend like you didn't make arguments you actually made. No integrity WHATSOEVER. Sickening.

Just an observation. Not everything is on the internet. Do you have a different observation?

Exactly. You have shown (so far) 4 examples out of 450+ (annually), or less than 1% of, police caused deaths that you suspect (and that I also agree) may well be crimes. That clearly supports the (my?) opinion that most (over 99%? of) police caused deaths are not so likely due to criminal acts by the officer(s) involved.
How in the world does 4 examples support your naive opinion? That's like someone bringing 4 bottles of wine to a party and another person saying, the fact that you only brought 4 bottles of wine to the party supports my opinion that the grocery store primarily sells beer. In order to test either of our opinions, an extensive study on the role of implicit and explicit racism of police officers who kill black people would have to be done. Such a study is not going to happen because it's nearly impossible so we have to make our judgments based on available knowledge. I've made my judgment based on extensive knowledge of racism, police violence and a combination of both - a knowledge base that includes, but is certainly not limited to the 4 examples I provided. You, on the other hand, haven't done much research on racism and police violence, have you? So what's your opinion based on - blind trust in the police? A default assumption that police tell truth about why they killed people? A blind faith in the demonstrably racist justice system.

I understand that you probably speak into an echo chamber at home and that our society endorses your willful naivete about racism in the police system, but it doesn't work for me. I've educated myself so, as far as I'm concerned, you're going to have learn a little bit more before you start trying to criticize my positions with any credibility.

Just an observation. [...] Do you have a different observation?
An observation of what? How many police interactions with black people around the country have you personally witnessed? And, **** if I'm about to legitimize your racist comment by comparing "observations". Your comment and question are based in false premises : that one can even conclude whether black people are more aggressive than white people. Unless, you have a study, your comment is baseless.

Dude, I'm sure you don't think of yourself as a racist - most people don't, but you casual assertion that white people are more passive than black people is based in a stereotype of black aggressiveness which means that you have some implicit racism going on.

Not everything is on the internet.
If it's not on the internet, then give me a name. I'll look it up myself. Point me to the research that supports your statement.

Why do you keep wanting to talk about blacks and the police? I didn't make a comparison between the passivity of blacks and whites, you keep bringing it up. I said in confrontation, whites tend to be passive. I am white, that's my experience. I have black friends but have not lived the black experience so I make no claims about their interactions with police. I don't often speak about something I haven't experienced. You on the other hand are quick to jump to conclusions. Don't use your imagination when you read what I say. I generally try to be pretty specific.

By the way, name's not dude. It's not sawdust either, but I digress.

It's amazing to me that some white people are still saying that police brutality against black people is "isolated" when a new case of it appears every week. Can you imagine the national outrage if every week a black police officer was found to have used excessive force against a white person.

And we're supposed to give officers the "benefit of the doubt" when people go out of their way to slander their victims.

Please. We have an epidemic of police brutality against the black population in the United States because the devaluation of black lives is endemic in the United States. Freddie Gray is one of the latest victims.

There are more white men killed by police than black men. Killings of white men outnumber those of blacks by 2 to 1. And plenty of them are killed under questionable circumstances. Latin Americans also come in for their share of death by policeman. So rhetoric about devaluation of black lives and the like is nothing but race hate mongering with no real basis in fact.

Of course, you never hear about it when a white man is killed by a cop. Al Sharpton doesn't show up to protest for some odd reason. Just last week a cop blew away a white college student with straight A's for no apparent reason here in Texas.

White men outnumber black men in America, so the given black man is more likely to be killed by cops. They are more likely to kill each other, too, so they are far more involved in violence than white men. Ipso facto, more are killed.

The number of black men killed by cops is small compared to the number who are murdered by other blacks, perhaps as little as 1 in 10 killings. The murder rate of black men is 20 per 100,000 per year. For white men it's 3 per 100,000 per year.

Obviously, you *do* hear about white people being killed by cops
