Something strange must have been going on in Parma, Missouri

Police, city officials resign after Missouri town elects 1st African-American mayor

PARMA, MO (KFVS) – The first African-American female mayor in Parma, Missouri’s history was sworn in on Tuesday. Half of the Parma Missouri police department resigned on Wednesday. Five of the six officers quit immediately and three other city employees also vacated their positions.

KFVS-TV reports that there are no resignation letters and the officer’s computers were cleared. Former Mayor Randall Ramsey said the resignation had to do with “safety concerns.” The former mayor served for 37 years under two different terms.

Many who live in Parma are not worried about their safety. The town only has 740 people. Although there have been some break-ins recently.

I also note that the TV station needs an editor: How is "five of six officers" equal to "Half of the . . . police department"?

Then there is the question how the former mayor could serve for 37 years under two terms?

The town's computers were "cleaned" and there is no record of the resignation letters.

To all who have replied: The people who quit did not live in town. No this is not a race issue. We elected Mrs. Byrd due to the fact that she is well educated, grew up in Parma and is now raising her own family in Parma, have the same views as most of the citizens which is to make the city a better place to live and not look like a junk yard. The fact that she is an African American female was just icing on the cake! She has and will continue to keep the citizens best interest first and continues to communicate with citizens. That alone is something we haven't had in a very long time. So no, those who resigned are not missed and did not live here to begin with and they certainly do not reflect the opinion of those of us who live here. We are not a black and white community...we are simply PARMA
