Wrong weapon drawn. Never pull a weapon you arent prepared to use. His saving grace came when the other officers arrived. Until that point, the officer was not in control of that situation.

Not saying he should have shot and killed him. Saying he shouldnt have drawn a gun if he wasnt ready and prepared to use it. As soon as he fell he was vulnerable. Had the other two cars not arrived at that point the suspect would have been on top of him grappling with him for a loaded and charged weapon.

...contrast that officer's attitudes, demeanor and commitment to duty (serve and protect) to cops that shoot people in the back as they run away and you have meaning to the phrase "Good Cop, Bad Cop".

There was no independent video to corroborate the bodycam account (which police depts. can easily doctor).

We just don't know what happened, so it's silly to draw conclusions.

"Maybe if we got into a struggle he would have been able to disarm me and kill me"

But this cop didn't play the maybe he game. If the perp did have a weapon it wasn't drawn and pointed at the cop. The cop knew he had backup close by so even if the perp and he ended up in a brawl the cop knew he would have the advantage. He read the situation and was willing to take a little bit of risk in order to take the perp alive.

That is the kind of cop I want policing my streets.
    Not me.

The difference between "bravery" and being stupid in situations like those is usually determined by how it ended.

Personally, the cop should of "saved the taxpayers some money" when given a legal and logical chance to do so.

Next time this cop does that, he'll likely be killed.

If that's what caused him to temper his actions, then well, whatever works. I don't think it's fair to remove his bravery and rational thinking from the equation, however.
