Re: Game Hunter Trampled To Death By Elephant

Some people just don't get it, apparently.

For probably the same reasons they wouldn't "get" why....

I taught every female in my extended family how to fight dirty and shoot guns, typically when they were around 12-14yo...
I taught my son how to hunt, fish, survive in the woods, and how to fight, shoot and otherwise defend himself from early childhood...
Why I have a collection of various weapons, from swords and tomahawks to pistols and military rifles and know how to use them all...

and couldn't possibly understand how all that relates to why I keep fire extinguishers and stored food on hand, have a secondary water supply other than city water, or why I keep heirloom seeds for produce...

It's mainly about self-reliance and not being dependent on others for the basics of life.

That's still not an explanation. It is merely an assumption that your view is "normal" and mine is aberrant without explaining why.

And again you're focusing on the killing without considering all the other factors involved.

So they are out there killing elephants to boost their egos and now they are upset when an elephant killed one of them?
I hope other barbarians like that will think twice before trying to kill an innocent animal.
You hunt and kill for food it you have to, not because you think you want to have some fun.

Actually it is a known and accepted risk that when you hunt dangerous animals, there's a chance they might kill or injure you. It is news, but it's not like hunters are going "OMG, that is outrageous, how dare that elephant do that..." Heh, no. The risk is actually part of the draw.

Animals kill animals all the time. It is part of nature, So are we.

If you ever NEED to hunt for food, and have never hunted before, you're probably going to go hungry. It is a skillset. Therefore practice is advisable. As for my family, we eat what we kill.

I don't understand why anyone wants to kill an elephant or other non food animals, just for sport.

My understanding is the elephant is indeed eaten, by the locals.

Most hunters will never get a chance to hunt in Africa... too expensive. For those few who can afford it, it is like the climbing-Mt-Everest of hunting.

The draw of hunting elephants is they are the largest land animal extant, they are smart and potentially dangerous, and hard to kill. This means they are a challenge... also it is something very few people ever get to attempt. Rarity factor is also a draw.

It's not something that I will ever get the chance to do, and I'm not certain I would if I did, but I understand the appeal.

Personally I don't hunt for sport, I hunt for food. I was raised not to kill anything we weren't going to eat.

As I've been trying to explain to someone else, it isn't about the killing... it is about the experience and the challenge.

No.. I want the particulars around the rhino pictured and the hunt. "Her first kill".. means nothing...

As when you posted a picture of her with a rhino and it was actually tranquilized.

There are people who do that. They're called "wildlife photographers" not hunters.

    I love all of that!
Killing one person is murder, killing 100,000 is foreign policy
