I'm glad this is in michigan, so i can demonstrate precisely how this "RFRA" crap would work here.
Let's say he moved or opened shop in ann arbor or detroit, and then he made this statement. The minute he discriminated against someone gay, he would be sued and lose. That's because those cities, unlike grandville, have anti discrimination laws.
Now let's say "RFRA" passed in michigan, which very nearly happened in december, and until the backlash in indiana, appeared certain it would pass. Now even being in ann arbor or detroit, there's no recourse for a gay person simply wanting their car repaired.
This also impresses the need for a state/nationwide anti discrimination law
