Conservative Group Bars Log Cabin Republicans From Event

Organizers of a conservative conference in Denver this summer have told a gay Republican group it cannot have a booth at the event.

What happened to the GOP's big tent? Any ideas on that?

It's a convention for conservative people of faith.

Looks like the GOP's big tent got bigger if there's a organized group of gay Colorado Republicans. I'll bet they're actually a pretty cool group of people.

The irony is that this concept of a "big tent" was started to explain why Arlen Specter switched to the DNC. The DNC primaried his ass out of office at their first opportunity.

Also, were the log cabin republicans thrown out of the RNC? Aren't they still in the tent?

    An incredibly stupid move.

This is why Republicans are not in office permanently. It is devisive, elitist and displays blind bigotry. The fact the GOP was able to attract enough gays to actually form a group in Colorado is stunningly remarkable, and these clowns should have been celebrating that. Now they have further enshrined a bad stereotype by making it true.

I just checked, and they're still around. They've grown quite a bit in the last few years, too. They've been busy lately putting out press releases on their stances. This week they published a list of questions they want Hillary to answer. You have to check them out.

But I thought Republicans supported liberty! Or is this just liberty for straight white people?

What "big tent" are you referring to? Since the 60's, the GOP has been taking in refugees from the liberalization of the Dems. The religious "right" used to be on the left. Many of the "GOP states" used to be staunch Dems.

In a system that realistically only has 2 parties, unity and harmony within a particular party is almost impossible. It looks like the Jews maybe ready to jump sides. If Labor ever woke up to how the greenie-weenie faction of the Dems has hurt them far more than the anti-union "right" ever has, we may see them jump also. Some of those have already changed. I know a few "old southern Democrats" who still say they are Dems but don't vote for or speak up for members of that party.

    This isn't a Republican event.

No, not remarkable at all that there is a Log Cabin group in Colorado. The Log Cabins have been around since the 1970s.

Since this isn't a GOP function, but rather one sponsored by a think tank sponsored by a Christian university, so your argument is pretty much nullified. They made a choice on who they choose to associate themselves with and like it or not, they have the right to make that decision.

I agree with the gay group that it's narrowminded and reinforces the perception of the party being anti-gay..... though I also understand it's not simply a political event, but a political event for people of faith.
IMO, there's no real harm in them having a booth.... even if they disagree on a specific issue.

a "big tent" can exist while members of that "big tent' are opposed to each other on certain issues.... every party, especially the 2 majors parties, have their camps that are opposed to the agendas of other camps within the party.( you think Benrie sander attends many pro-business or conservative democrat events ? )

I suspect atheists Republicans wouldn't be welcome as such an event either.... but certainly welcome at "party-wide" events, such as CPAC ( atheists did make a showing at CPAC, btw)
