If the risks aren't worth the reward they should get another job. Simple as that.

That's the line many conservatives like to give in any other similar scenario. It goes both ways.

Again, this is in no way similar to what happened in South Carolina.
Well, you might not have raised thugs, but luckily not everybody who commits a crime is a thug.

And you might want to shake his hand, I would want to sue his ass.

    Such unfounded apologism!

If you cant do your job right, you shouldnt have that job...whatever the job.

If you dont like the pay and the job requirements, dont take the job.

    Sue ?

If you're kid ripped someone off and then stole someone's property to get away you would focus your outrage on the arresting officer for kneeing him in the groin ?

Yes, because such actions by LEOs destroy any possibility of respect for them. They are human beings but they are required to act in a manner superior to normal human behaviour during times of great stress. To kick a felon in the groin is nothing more than an adrenalin rush for the perp - in that case the cop is the perp.

Yup, my child would have to answer for his crimes in court, but if he complied with the police officers demands and surrendered and the police did that to him (kicking him in the private parts, kicking him in the head, etc. etc.) then you bet your bottom dollar I would sue. If police does not learn from their officers being shamed and prosecuted then maybe they will learn it if they feel it in their pockets.

Like Brendon Butler in the case of Murder on a Sunday Morning where a kid was hit, lied to, made to confess to something he did not do and put in jail for months for a case of police incompetence and police misdeeds. Financial consequences are maybe the only things that will teach police departments to change their wicked ways.

    It's not an "either/or" choice.

San Bernardino County to pay $650,000 after deputies beat horse pursuit suspect

San Bernardino County approved a $650,000 payout Tuesday to a man who was beaten by sheriff’s deputies after he was thrown off a horse — an incident captured on video by a hovering news helicopter.

Francis Pusok, 30, settled with the county Friday, a little more than a week after the April 9 incident in which deputies kicked and punched Pusok even as he appeared to have surrendered. It was approved Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors.

The settlement ends any potential claims Pusok could make against the county or Sheriff’s Department stemming from the beating.

It does not, however, put an end to disciplinary and criminal investigations that were launched by Sheriff John McMahon following the incident.....

I would expect that he's still going to face criminal charges for what he did, so I would expect that a bunch of his award will be eaten up in lawyer fees and/or possibly fines.
