California Sheriff Investigates 'Disturbing' Video of Suspect Being Beaten

I would expect that he's still going to face criminal charges for what he did, so I would expect that a bunch of his award will be eaten up in lawyer fees and/or possibly fines.

The dude? Yeah, he probably will still be in trouble for his crimes. But the police need to be in trouble for their crimes as well. Losing over a half million dollars won't do it, the cops at fault do not pay that. The only way to curtail bad cop behavior is to punish the bad cops.

Completely agree. Didn't mean to imply the officers shouldn't answer for their actions. And no, I don't think they pay out ends the officer's accountability. The payout is the department/employer, not them. Just saying he doesn't, and shouldn't, get a "get our of jail free" card, either.
