Police intervene in Melbourne to prevent clashes as rival, anti-racism protesters hold event at same location.

'A series of anti-Islam rallies have been held across Australia, with police forced to intervene to separate protesters from rival, anti-racism demonstrators in the city of Melbourne.
The events by a group called Reclaim Australia drew hundreds of supporters but also triggered counter-rallies from other groups who criticised them as racist and called for greater tolerance.
Between 500-800 people gathered in the pouring rain in Martin Place in Sydney's central business district on Saturday for one of the largest demonstrations, which were held in a number of state capitals and regional centres.'

Great...another 'my life sucks so since I am either flat-out stupid and/or emotionally disturbed, I am going to blame my misery on whichever group of people is currently number one on the bigot hit list'.

Good luck finding a sane/intelligent person in this bunch.

You mean like those ignorant and emotionally disturbed gays who protest Catholics (in your logic)?

There are MANY reasons to protest Islam - discrimination against gays, against women, opposition to free speech, to name a few.

I have no idea what you are blathering about.

There are over a billion Muslims...a VERY tiny fraction of them are extremists. Not all Muslims are against gays, women or free speech; only an ignoramus would think otherwise.

When you protest against Muslims, then you are protesting against all of them...which is being a bigot.

And to condemn a gigantic group of people - almost all of whom one has never met - is moronic and pathetic.

I can understand why Australians don't want Muslims in their country.

That's not good......
Islam is a peaceful religion, with every aspects of life. Muslim respects every religon :(

Oh no, bigots being bigoted. Most of these people protesting are those who are unemployed and blame immigrants for "taking their jobs", because they can't get hired turning up for a job interview in a singlet and shorts.

Who exactly is "protesting Catholics" simply for existing?

In fact a very tiny fraction of them are peaceful.

you are always ignorant as a youngturk .islam is not an ideology so it cant have fractions.but its sects and members can be categorized as different fractions ( from radicals to panentheists )because they have stances as supporters of political islam

So funny, let Aborigenes people to protest against white man invasion to australia, it was their land and white man took it, and now white man speaking what is moral, what immoral, what are australian values etc. ...there are only one value, humanity. Same in America

You know Medusa, being ignorant about Islam is not even optional for us since we have mandatory religion classes. But it's definitely optional for the Westerns, they are still coming to me repeating what CNN-BBC says instead of searching Islam on Wikipedia.

Evidence?

There are millions of Muslims among 1.5 billion people who are respectful, tolerant and peaceful but not the vast majority.

The vast majority of Muslims are NOT associated with terrorist organizations,it's a fact. But it doesn't mean they are peaceful. Most Muslims have radical views regarding women's rights,non-Muslims,LGBT people etc.

*For example,Muslim opinion on how should women dress.

*Homosexuality.

*40 percent of British Muslims want sharia law in the UK.
*1/3 of US Muslims support Al-Qaeda,suicide bombs.

A district/province,whatsoever,is no longer livable for non-Muslims,minorities once it's dominated by Muslims.5% of Europe's population is Muslim,it's about 12-15% in France but only 0.2% of Turkey's population is non-Muslim.(Which is the most secular Muslim country)

More polls : Muslim Opinion Polls - Challenging the 'Tiny Minority of Extremists' Myth

Muslim women should NOT cover face, say most Muslim countries in survey | Daily Mail Online
Muslims in Britain have zero tolerance of homosexuality, says poll
Are British Muslims a threat to gay people? Polling on homophobia, sharia law and violence

Please explain.

 By your logic, I should hate Australians a lot more than Muslims, because they're responsible for more rapes, murders and pedophilia in Australia than Muslims are.

 # =/= %

Opinion or fact?

A logical conclusion, perhaps. Radical islam is growing leaps and bounds and spreading ever faster throughout the world. If the majority of muslims have peaceful goals, what causes these groups to be so successful so quickly?

I live in an area where there are few muslims. I only know two personally. Both agree with what radical islam is trying to do but disagree with most of the methodology. Obviously, that is a meaningless comment from a standpoint of statistics but it helps understand how at least some muslims view the whole thing. In other words, it may be like an iceberg with just the tip showing above the water so far.

A legitimate beef with those members of Jemaah Islamiyah who were responsible for the attack - absolutely.

A reasonable and educated person in Australia would not equate their actions with all Australian Muslims.
Yes, we know. Not all Muslims are rapists, supports terrorists, want Shariah law, etc. But a significant number of them do, and therein lies the problems.

I can't be bothered googling, but I'm willing to bet that a larger percentage of non-Muslim Australians commit crimes than Australian Muslims do.

 I wouldn't know either. I was only pointing out that I don't think the argument you were making was, in fact, an actual rebuttal. Most folks who keep abreast have heard of the Sydney Gang Rapes, but it's easy to confuse familiar stories with probability; the two are not equivalent.
