Indiana pizzeria that said it wouldn't cater gay weddings raises over 475K

Yes.

If it was, the reporter would have to be in on it as well as the person who started the gofundme campaign.

Regardless, currently it is ...

$489,324 of $200k

and increasing by the second.

No they actually wouldn't. The business could have seen an opportunity to do something bold for their business in seeing the reporter. With the recent trend we have seen with people making donations to people they see as victims, of either side, they could have figured on it getting them donations in some way, just nor necessarily knowing exactly how. Maybe they did think it would initially be like a CFA thing, or like the bakers or other businesses like them. Then they saw the opportunity expand with the Yelp! thing and other social media outrage. A couple of angry, irrational (empty) threats lister and they have a full blown sympathy grabbing, money making opportunity. Heck, they could have simply made the comment innocently figuring such a thing wasn't likely to happen to them anyway, and then saw the opportunity for profitable sympathy after the reaction.

This is you ignoring the sequence of events.
They had nothing to do with the reporter.

I didn't say they did. They could have seen an opportunity to help themselves financially when the reporter came looking for comments. This sort of thing doesn't take planning, just opportunity.

To me this thread should have 200 pages as well. Shoots the gay narrative in the throat Just like Chic Fil A... You watch what happens in the coming month to corps like Apple, who scream discrimination about Indiana, but have absolutely no problem setting up shop in China, and the CEO is a raving gay to boot.. LOL You can't write hypocrisy better than that. Not to mention Wal Mart and every other do gooder.. They're so phony it makes your stomach curdle.

You marginalizing yourself, Rogue.. And it ain't pretty to watch, frankly.

That's quite the premise, but I don't think they're that clever.

Again, you are ignoring the known sequence of events.

This is what I've been saying.

No I'm not. What part of the events do you think they couldn't purposely be using to their financial advantage?

Don't get me wrong, I think the far more likely scenario is that they were ignorant in saying what they did. However, I also think it is possible that they did see the opportunity of financial gain in closing shop, either from sympathetic people, lawsuits against those threatening them, or both.

No I'm not. What part of the events do you think they couldn't purposely be using to their financial advantage?
Yes you are.
It is like you do not even know what we are talking about.

Do try to follow.

Is it cynical of me to wonder if the goal from the very beginning was money?
Yes.

If it was, the reporter would have to be in on it as well as the person who started the gofundme campaign.

It couldn't be their goal as it is not within the realm of the sequence of events.
They are not responsible for what occurred. The reporter is.
Nor are they responsible for what Dana's show did in starting a gofundme account.

They didn't ask for any of it.
Had they, then one may be able to speculate it was about money for them.
As it is, such speculation is absurd.

And pay attention to this video. It was a prior interview that the reporter dug up.

That comes to almost $1.5 million! I think we are on to something here!

Now while people jumped to donate money to a pizza business that really only managed to piss off fanatics and zealots in the gay rights movement let us consider what they did not donate that money towards...

Children starving in Africa.
Cancer research.
Displaced refuges from war torn countries.

Glad we have our priorities straight.

i get what you're saying in terms of prioritizing but this is a weak argument.

by the same logic, why are any of the gay rights activists wasting their time and money fighting against a law in indiana? in iraq/syria they are still literally executing people for being homosexual and stoning to death women accused of adultery. these are not examples from 800 years in the past as some have tried use to make false equivalencies or excuses (e.g. well christians are bad too cuz the crusades)

anyway, the point is that this argument essentially says: why do anything at all about anything so long as other worse problems exist? even keeping it domestic, we have crumbling roads/bridges (that people of all genders/orientations/religions use), we have pathetically lagging school systems, etc. i think those and a myriad of other problems are also more important that a random pizzeria in a small town and yet this has dominated the news for a few weeks now

It is cynical. It is also not very plausible. The media, desperate for a local turn to a state story, went out searching until they found a restaurant owner (any restaurant owner) willing to say they would not serve a gay wedding, tried to turn them into a sacrificial victim, and instead it backfired.

How do you plan a scam that requires the random actions of a media outlet? Mind control?

This seems to be made of the same stuff as the Idaho chapel story. It seems quite manufactured by the conservative media.

Given that Christianity is a religion that commands help for the poor, sick, and downtrodden I was just pointing out something of a contradiction.

Hi everyone, I would just like to announce that Ive signed a deal to open several branches of my new business venture in Indiana- the PoS Pizzeria Co. I currently plan to open up 4 branches shortly:

Branch 1: will not cater to gay weddings but will tolerate everybody else.

Branch 2: will not cater to Christian weddings but will tolerate everybody else.

Branch 3: will not cater to Muslim weddings but will tolerate everybody else.

Branch 4: will not cater to Atheist weddings but will tolerate everybody else.

Please post negative reviews of my pizzerias at Yelp so I can get on TV and start a separate GoFundMe campaign for each one please. Thank you.
If I may offer a bit of advice. Make sure they are not in close proximity and do not identify which is which. Surprise is so much better and it allows flexibility on your part.

fair enough

is Tim Cook not also a contradiction? in claiming that the indiana law is harmful to gays in indiana, but continuing operations in countries where homosexuality is outright illegal?

if you care about the rights of gays, shouldnt that apply globally? my more cynical take is that there simply isnt a big downside to criticizing this law in indiana in dollar terms, but giving up cheap slave labor in china would be economically crippling to the company. so its an easy pr score. but a glaring contradiction in my opinion

finally, it would be nice if everyone practiced what they preached, especially when it comes to religious views. that is rarely the case though

I am no longer sure if I oppose that law as I did initially. I just watched the interview of Crystal O'Connor on Fox and she so well and intelligently articulated the difference between feeding gays in one instance and not in another.

Did Tim Cook discontinue business in Indiana?

I see nothing wrong with her position. I do not think the Indiana law as written now or as written before was truly relevant to this situation. Nobody has sued her or attempted to use the state to punish her business. From reading the original story it seems her family were the victims of a liberal journalist trying to strum up controversy.

RFRA: Michiana business wouldn't cater a gay wedding - ABC57 News - See the Difference Michiana

Did Tim Cook discontinue business in Indiana?

no, i was thinking of the contradiction in his words/tweets/statements about the law. it just seems like, as the executive of the most powerful company in the world, he is squandering the use of his pulpit in directing his ire at the state of indiana, when he might be one of the few people on earth in a position to affect powerful change in other countries where the civil rights situations are far worse. to use a religious analogy, it is a bit like pointing out the splinter in indiana's eye, while ignoring the plank in china's.

i hope that businesses don't boycott the entire state, as many have called for. i think it'd be unfair to the large portion of residents who don't support the legislation.

Not cynical, naive.

Let's see if I have this right.

1 Local news decides to go with an activist reporting style to misrepresent what a passed law says to froth up controversy.

2 Young liberal reporter seeks out local dining establishment in small town Indiana to ask a ridiculous question to, and finds this pizza joint with an Easter display on the piano in their dining room, even better.

3 The question is answered to the delight of our young local reporter in just the way she wanted so as to paint Christians as intolerant, and the resturant is inundated with prank calls, death threats, phony bad reviews, and at least one high school teacher threatening to burn the place down.

And you're upset that he, or someone else started a "go fund me" page that has raised money to replace the livelyhood that intolerant liberal pukes took away?

I hope he raises millions.
