LAUSANNE, Switzerland — Iran and European nations said here tonight they had reached a general understanding about next steps in limiting Tehran’s nuclear program, but officials said that some important issues need to be resolved before a final agreement in June that would allow the Obama administration to assert it has cut off all of Iran’s pathways to a nuclear weapon.

Both Germany’s foreign office and President Hassan Rouhani of Iran said that key parameters of a framework for a final accord had been reached, with the details to be negotiated by June 30. But Western diplomats cautioned that on several of the key issues that were debated here for the past eight days between Secretary of State John Kerry and his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, there were still significant differences.

Hmm, another 3 months.
Sanctions lifted as Iran complies?? Interesting - Complies to what?
What will Congress think?

Heya JF. :2wave: Just enuff time for the Iranians to complete their agenda.

Well, one thing is for certain. Menendez the leading Democrat against BO's deal wont be there to speak out. He has been forced to step down.

So that Leaves it on the Repubs. Odds are: All bark and no bite.

BO peep is speaking on TV now. He is doing some esplainin and says it is our best option on the table. That the Iranian Leader put out a Fatwa that the Iranians are against nuclear weapons. So this gives us a framework.

What is the Iranian agenda?

Heya Soot. :2wave: To get their Nuke.....you don't think being 2-3months from break out. That they will just stop the completion of what they have been striving for these last 20 years or so, did ya?

Let me be the first to say that the agreement reached on June 30th will be to extend the negotiations until September 30th.

Yeah Fletch :2wave: and that they agreed to a framework to a deal. Yet they lift sanctions.

Bo basically said any critics of the deal has to ask themselves this question.....is it worth another war in the ME. What did he think Iran was going to declare war on the World. Talk about fear mongering. There it is done by BO peep in front of the camera.

StephanowI'mapuss.....just said BO peep gave a forceful speech. He heard bass in BO's voice, I guess.

IMO, this understanding falls well short of the kind of credible framework agreement that would demonstrate significant progress. It does, however, go far enough to sustain the negotiations, but some difficult issues remain to be resolved. From Reuters:

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius and his President Francois Hollande welcomed the "framework" agreed on curbing Iran's nuclear power on Thursday but said there was work to do to before there could be an acceptable deal.

France says Iran nuclear deal still needs work | Reuters

The key point is that there is not an “acceptable deal” for which the final details and annexes need to be worked out. Instead, negotiations remain to be conducted before an “acceptable deal” is reached.

If we REALLY think they're 2 or 3 months from building functioning nuclear weapons I don't think that there's anything we could do to stop them.

June was always the drop dead month for an actual deal but a lot of people have been saying that Iran is already close to breakout and I suspect they haven't been idle.
Nevertheless Obama did say this agreement will make us and the world safer so it must be true because he never lies.

I wonder if they're going to wait for June to give details ... if ever.
Face it ... Iran kept f**king Kerry and he kept asking for more.

I want to read the text. At the moment it looks like we do not know enough. But so far there is no indication of a sufficient deal.

Here it is in its glory Jog. Bo says we got something.....we wont be going to war. He expressed that Congress should not take action. Looks like the Iranians are all full of grins. As this is described as informal for them.

Some in the media will call this a "deal." It's not. It's a face-saving, time-buying charade -- an implicit admission that years of repeatedly-extended negotiations have resulted in nothing concrete, with yet another deadline disappearing in the rearview mirror. Consider this tortured verbiage provided to the Associated Press:

Iran and six world powers have agreed on the outlines of an understanding to limit Iran's nuclear programs, officials told The Associated Press Thursday. Negotiations continued on a dispute over how much of it to make public. The officials spoke outside weeklong talks that have been twice extended past the March 31 deadline in an effort to formulate both a general statement of what has been accomplished and documents describing what needs to be done to meet a June 30 deadline for a final accord...The Iranians want any results from talks in the Swiss city of Lausanne described less as a deal and more of an informal understanding … Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who left Lausanne Tuesday, said the two sides were close, the Interfax news agency reported. There are "only a few steps left to take or, in some cases, even-half steps, and some things have already been agreed upon," he said. But as the talks dragged on, one Western official said early Thursday that they were "at a tough moment and the path forward is really unclear," adding that the idea of breaking talks off over Passover and Easter and resuming them next week had been informally raised. That was confirmed by another official...By blowing through self-imposed deadlines, President Barack Obama risks further antagonizing lawmakers in both parties who are poised to take their own action to upend a deal if they determine the administration has been too conciliatory.

So we have "outlines of an understanding" that allow the parties to keep on negotiating, with the Iranians (a) stressing that the agreement is informal and non-binding at this stage, and (b) lobbying to keep as many details -- to the extent that they exist at all -- private. The Guardian reports that this "understanding" will feature "secret parameters." So far, Iranian officials seem pretty excited about this "breakthrough:".....snip~

That's what BO said.....that they were 2-3months away. Oh and we could stop them.....and there isn't much they can do about it. Also, no nukes would be required. Does it sound like BO is scared to go to war? We do know he has a major problem when having to deal with violence in his life.

Moreover if we jumped.....then there will be a few others. One can see how those Sunni Allies would luv to rain down On the Shia.....in Iran!

The Senate has to ratify it to become law.

Heya American. :2wave: What can the Senate ratify with an informal deal? Did you mean after they get a deal in June?

Here is the actual deal: http://www.armscontrol.org/files/Pa...ublic-of-Irans-Nuclear-Program-2015-04-02.pdf
I dont see how this is a bad deal. A lot of international oversight, implementing certain restrictions, reducing centrifuges, extending the "breakout time", agreeing to halt enrichment, allowing IAEA access to all nuclear facilities, inspectors to all uranium mines, redesigning Arak to ensure that its not used for weapon purposes, halting and not building any new enrichment facilities or heavy water reactors... I mean I dont see how this is a bad thing.. But then again many here would state even if Iran said, "we will blow up all our nuclear facilities" they would not accept that as a deal simply because of OBAMA!!!

Congress is the only one that has the power to lift or modify the sanctions.

Or Iran can by:

(1) released all political prisoners and detainees; (2) ceased its practices of violence and abuse of Iranian citizens engaging in peaceful political activity; (3) conducted a transparent investigation into the killings and abuse of peaceful political activists in Iran and prosecuted those responsible; and (4) made progress toward establishing an independent judiciary.

I meant a signed treaty.

"...extending the breakout time..."
" ... agreeing to halt enrichment ..." wtf kind of nonsense is that?
Your link doesn't say that.
And it does say breakout time is currently 3 months ... that would be June.

This would be a good deal if it was was with Canada ... but this Iran.
They dragged it out to get to this point.
And that sanction section is silly.
Once they get a weapon, wtf do they care about sanctions.

Heya Samhain. :2wave: Right now Congress is all bark and no bite. Then Bo said the Europeans would lift their sanctions anyways.

As to Iran.....They wont be discussing any of that with what Rouhani said back in 2013.

In the lead up to his 2013 election victory, Hassan Rouhani gave an interview in which he pushed back against the suggestion that as Iran's nuclear negotiator during the 2003 to 2005, the program was suspended under international pressure. An angry Rouhani shot back and described how Iran was able to manipulate international negotiations and ultimately advance the program. "The Tehran Declaration was supposed to outline the resolutions and suspensions," he said. "We didn't allow it. We only halted the gas supply for those 10 centrifuges in Natanz." Though negotiations with European countries began in October 2003, he said the overall nuclear program expanded. "Do you know when heavy water was developed? Summer of 2004. Do you know when we developed yellowcake? Winter 2004," Rouhani said. "Do you know when the number of centrifuges reached 3,000? Winter 2004." "We halted the nuclear program?" he asked the interviewer rhetorically. "We were the ones to complete it!".....snip~

The powers that be in Iran don't want women to vote, drive, or show their faces in public, and they punish women for declaring rape. They'll also kill a homosexual person pretty much on sight.

But by all means, liberals are falling all over themselves to help them develop nuclear weapons.

I wish liberals were as tough on Iran as they are bakers and pizzeria owners for exercising their religious freedom as Christians.

In his speech, Obama promised Iranian transparency. Hmmm........

Doesn't matter, they don't have to do anything, as the expiration for sanctions is Dec 31 2016.
