Anne Frank died earlier than thought, new study says

Anne Frank died earlier than thought, new study says

I find this interesting as her diary had a huge impact on me when I was a kid.

It uses archives from the Red Cross, the International Tracing Service and the Bergen-Belsen Memorial, together with "as many eyewitness testimonies and survivors as possible."
Four survivors reported that Anne and Margot showed symptoms of typhus by late January 1945.
"Most deaths of typhus occur around 12 days after the first symptoms appeared," the new study said, quoting the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment.
"It is therefore unlikely that they survived until the end of March," the Anne Frank House said.

Interesting! Glad you shared this. I've always been fascinated with her story and the diary also had a big impact on me. I think I read it first when I was 12 or so.

You know, it would actually have been a good thing for her if she did die sooner than believed. Typhus is an absolutely horrific disease, and the separation from everyone except for Margot, the trauma of the years before the capture as well as the capture itself, all of it...it wasn't worth living. The story always was that Margot died first and she was alone, albeit briefly. I actually hope they died within a very short time of each other.

Yeah I know I will criticized for this post, but I never really liked The Dairy of Anne Frank nor really cared that much for her story. I have never gotten how revered that whole scene is.

I was never too impressed by it either. I tend to always be weak on emotional responses, though.

For a girl her age, Anne Frank was very mature and thoughtful, and she was a very good writer. I read her Diary when I was about 13. But recently I read something about a girl who knew her before they were taken to the camps and who met up with her shortly before her death.

Just found the link in my computer's history: Anne Frank's friend recalls the moment 13-year-old was given the diary | Daily Mail Online

Didn't Meyer Levin write it and sue Otto Frank over it winning $50,000.00. Maybe I'm thinking of something else.

A major part of its importance was that it put a human face on the unfathomably vast horror that was the Holocaust; in particular, the face of an innocent and harmless young girl who would end up dead at 15 for no other reason that being born Jewish.

For that reason alone it's importance in history cannot be understated.

You're right, Goshin. Anne Frank was a young girl like so many others with the same hopes and dreams we most have, and that's why millions and millions of readers have identified with her. She was just transitioning from childhood into young womanhood and feeling the stirrings of her sexuality, and she had not yet learned how to hate.

Anne Frank died earlier than thought, new study says Going to say this one time: Don't Be A Jerk in this thread. I've got no patience for it tonight. If nothing else show a little gorram respect for the dead.
