US security staff shot a knife-wielding man three times at New Orleans international airport after he tried to storm a checkpoint, officials say.
They say the man, named as Richard White, 62, attacked an airport security worker with wasp spray before striking another on the arm with a large knife.

How a person armed (equipped?) with wasp spray and a large knife was not stopped by the TSA nannies before getting inside of an airport makes me wonder why we even still have them. It appears that a local police officer was the one that decided to shoot that maniac - she deserves our praise.

Actually it is reported he is a Jehovah Witness. Also family stands he has a mental illness component which is kind of obvious.

White, described by law enforcement as a member of the Christian-based Jehovah's Witnesses religious movement, was carrying a bag during that attack.

Inside, police found six Molotov cocktails -- here in the guise of half-pint jars filled with gasoline and set with cloth wicks.

A search of White's car parked near the airport uncovered smoke bombs and several canisters, including an oxygen tank.

"We don't know at this time what the intended purpose of those being in the trunk of the car actually are," he said.

This guy sounds full tilt crazy but he was inflicting terror on the public so I guess he would be classified as a terrorist for those who need to classify attacks.

Yeah, I was being ironic. Figured it sounded more like loose nutter than serious terrorist attempt.

If he was a Muslim this thread would have a whole lot more replies. Not to mention the multiple duplicates that would need to be merged.

Knife, wasp spray and BOMBS.. so yes it was a terror attempt.

One would think that it would be the one answering those doorbells who would of been the one to spray him with wasp spray. Just say'n.

As I understand it, the "bombs" were left in a bag and it really does not matter what you think was attempted. What matters is that he was stopped before any serious harm to others was accomplished - the federal TSA nannies were saved by the local police.

I'm surprised we haven't heard about a possible racist shooting again by police in this case. The man was after all, african american. Isn't this just another overt show of force by racist police shooting another black man in America? "Machete's and wasp spray hands up, don't shoot!"

What was the religious, political and/or ideological goal of this man's attack, then? Because that's what terrorism means - targeting non-combatants to further any one (or multiple) of those ends.

This time the system worked. TSA agents aren't armed as the high percentage of the time they just deal with people bringing more than 3.4 ounces of shampoo in the carry on bags. But by having a readily available armed police officer they were able to disable the danger.
The attacker died so we will probably never know what his motive was or was he simply that far out of reality.
