Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity[W:274]

Re: Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity'

Are you trying to suggest that the others aren't involved. Lol. Also, they all closed an interim deal in 2013, and they'll close this one too, if the obstructionists, the opponents of peace don't succeed in derailing it.

I don't know. But it sounded as though they were just following for the moment.

Oh, I see. Well their signatures will be on the final deal.

Re: Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity'

So, what are we negotiating for then? They don't have a nuclear program, according to Obama.

He knows very well they have a nuclear weapons program. So does the IAEA. So does every national intelligence service in the civilized world. The hard part is enriching uranium from the 0.7% U-235 it contains in nature to the 20% level that is useful in reactors for power generation. Enriching it from 20% to the roughly 90% U-235 needed for atom bombs is a much quicker process.

Work on the non-nuclear elements of a bomb design--precisely shaped pieces of conventional explosive, sophisticated electrical devices and circuits, parts made from other metals, deuterium and tritium, etc. could easily be going on at the same time. These components could be assembled and tested by themselves, and measurements from the tests could probably tell their scientists if there probably would have been a fission explosion if the nuclear materials had been in place.

That kind of simulation is not as certain as a full nuclear test, and I'm sure U.S. scientists learned a lot from the various fizzled nuclear explosions that occurred in tests. Still, it must work pretty well, or this country could not have largely eliminated full test explosions. I have no idea if Iran has the technical equipment needed for these simulations to have good predictive power, but I would not want to assume it did not.

Because all this work can be done while the uranium is being enriched, once you had, say, forty pounds of 90+% U-235, it would not take very long to form it into the necessary size and shape and assemble it with the other already-tested components. I think this is what Israel is concerned about--that because the work could proceed fast in the final stages, its estimates of just how much bomb-grade uranium Iran had manufactured would not have to be off by much for it to be too late to prevent it from making a bomb. I suspect that to start to enrich past 20% is to cross the red line Mr. Netanyahu has talked about.

Oh, I see. Well their signatures will be on the final deal.

One can only hope that France and the UK persist in the though stance they had been following.

Re: Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity'

They do, however, want to have intrusive and extensive inspections and rules. That further sanctions do not make sense at this point seems to be okay. If the talks fail, sanctions would be back on the table.

Yes, Obama has said that. So, with minimal differences, the P5+1 are on the same page.

Ok, so what's your point?

Re: Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity'

Your continued whiny posts even about Democrats who see Obama's moves as insipid and naive are simply more proof that some will go to any lengths to defend this White Houses' stupidity and ideology. Congratulations!

Yeah Ockham....they tend to forget there are Democrats against BO peeps Incompetent Deal.

Re: Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity'

They most certainly do have a nuclear program as acknowledged by Obama, and everybody else, including Iran. What they don't have as declared by both US and Israeli intelligence, is a nuclear weapon program, which is what the P5+1 seeks to ensure remains out of reach. Your hate of Obama has compromised any objectivity on this whatsoever.

Your hate for America doesn't give you Objectivity with your Cheerleading for Iran either. So save all that BS with those who Dump on Your MAN. Since you are defending the Putz!

Re: Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity'

Yeah, double down on the idea that that darn Obama wants Iran to have a nuke. Clearly you are the level-headed one here!

Glad to see common sense and level headed Democrats being critical doesn't dissuade from your posts. Talk about double down on the stupid! Too bad there won't be any accountability when they do get a nuke and use it.

He's the president of the United States. When he fails, Libya, Syria, Russia, I point it out. When he succeeds, Iran, Israel, I point it out. Because I have objectivity. In your blind rage of hatred for America's president, and all of his supporters you and the GOP children in congress seek to undermine US credibility, security and relationships. So low is your stoop that you would drool all over yourself at the prospect of a foreign leader disrespecting your own president. The language you use to describe our president, even if you disagree with his policy diminishes your own character or rather lack thereof.

Yeah he is the President unfortunately, and that means he don't get to hear a lot from someone that will jump into his **** and let him hear it. Being just another man like any other.

Yeah point out all that GOP Children and stuff with all that Anti American BS you do. Now you understand the perspective you are in.

Also, Monte you need to start reading around. Rather than try and make **** up on the fly. First you try with I don't blame Repubs. Now you want to run to what BO has done Right.....even when given the credit. Although, I do get a chuckle out of it. Exasperation defined for the leftist.

Because paper promises never contain evil men. History tells us this, but the ignorant dont listen.

History also tells us that violence begets violence, yet we remain in perpetual war. Speaking of ignorant. So what about you. Does Obama's courtesy toward the Iranian people by offering a New Years greeting offend your sensibilities?

Re: Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity'

The president sent a New Years greeting to Iran and the blood pressure on the right is peaked, because they would have preferred that he sent bombs.

They would prefer he do something that would prevent Iran from making nuclear bombs. There is no indication that this negotiation will accomplish that.

And what indication is there that it won't, hmm? You've seen it, please share from your privileged perch.

the apparent US willingness to allow Iran to keep its weaponizing equipment and the temporary nature of the agreement in its current form. Do you have some indication that it will stop Iran from making nuclear bombs? Obviously not.

The point is, neither of us have seen it. But the president has stated that Iran will not be allowed to have a nuclear weapon program. Explain the wisdom of criticizing something you haven't even seen?

It's CAIR. It's like saying "Did you read that science article from the KKK??"

*Anti-CAIR* Defending America from the Council on American-Islamic Relations

First of all, the article was from CFR.........Where did you get "CAIR"?

Secondly, CAIR is simply the Islamic equivalent of AIPAC without the imprimatur of a pro Israeli Major Media.

CAIR is in place to oppose the JDL, KKK types

The most important thing is the article cited by "Monte"

“Why Iran Should Get the Bomb”
Why Iran Should Get the Bomb - Council on Foreign Relations

I've been to Iran & enjoyed the hospitality of its many kind, educated, & generous people

So has this guy:

“Iran is the most charming country on Earth”
John Simpson: Iran is the most charming country on Earth - Telegraph

Excerpt “In Tehran, you will encounter a genuine delight to see you: a distinctly old-fashioned affection for westerners, who have vanished from everyday life.
A few discerning people are coming back quite starry-eyed from their visits there.

What always strikes me in Iran is the normality of it.

This is not Saudi Arabia: women drive cars, run businesses and often forget to cover their hair as they’re supposed to do. The systems of control exist, but they’re usually discreet.

What you would encounter is a genuine delight to see you: a distinctly old-fashioned affection for westerners, who have vanished from everyday life in Iran. Eating in a Tehran restaurant can sometimes be a trial: so many people want to greet you and indeed pay for your meal.

...your main problem will be saying no to the kindly people picnicking in the parks and gardens who beg you to join them.

Iran is recommended by the Telegraph Travel team as one of the 20 top destinations to visit in 2014. For more on what's on offer, read our guide to holidaying in Iran. CONTINUED

And if it's not just Obama, but Cameron, Jinping, Hollande, Merkel and Putin signing on?
