The Israeli elections took a dramatic turn in the early morning hours on Wednesday as official tallies from nearly all precincts indicate that Likud has opened up a significant lead over Zionist Union, a far cry from the virtual dead heat that television exit polls had reported Tuesday evening.

With nearly 95 percent of precincts reporting before dawn on Wednesday, the Likud has emerged as the clear, undisputed victor in the elections.

Re: Israeli elections take dramatic turn as official tally gives Likud sweeping victo

Netanyahu came from behind to take the 2015 election, I say good. He will easily be able to lead a coalition with other right wing parties in Israel. Looks like his speech to the US didn't hurt him after all. Obama must be pissed.

Here is the official Knesset tally (ie not exit polling):

Re: Israeli elections take dramatic turn as official tally gives Likud sweeping victo

He may have won, but there's nothing sweeping.

In a dizzying outcome to a divisive and angry Israeli election campaign, exit polls pointed to a virtual tie between the two main parties, leaving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his chief rival scrambling early Wednesday to secure political alliances that would enable one of them to form a new government.

Its a multi party system, Likud was behind by 4 points as of a few days ago, and Netanyahu has an easy job of forming a coalition with like minded parties.

Oh yeah, there's no shortage of neocons in Israel.

Obama must be pissed.

It only took until your 2nd straight post to begin your thread to trash Obama.

Bibi showed his true colors in the final days, dismissing a two-state solution he previously supported and scaring Jews about Arabs voting.
He may have won this battle but he's already lost the war of world public opinion, as his economy will crumble with former partners pulling out.

President Reagan would certainly be disappointed, since he supported the two-state solution, as did all GOP Presidents since WW2 .

Until he pulled the Arab race card.
Along with patronizing the most extreme on the far right, breaking his pledge to a two-state solution.
We know the price of this coalition--several thousand more settlements that guarantee no peace .

Are you saying that because he was behind in the polls a little that he changed to a hard line on Palestinian statehood and that bumped his numbers up?

Lolz Nimby you were wrong about the 2014 mid terms, and just a few days ago you were bragging that Netanyahu would lose-now here you are spitting and hissing again.

You weren't a member here before then, so far you are 0 for 2. :2wave:

Nimby, the Israeli people have spoken-and apparently a weak US POTUS helped inspire them.

Re: Israeli elections take dramatic turn as official tally gives Likud sweeping victo

More like his criticism of the American president.

Israel knows Iran is about to get nukes, that leads to uncertainty and doubt-which tends to benefit a party with a strong national defense policy.
Obama appeasing Iran likely aggravated that, as would his criticism of Netanyahu.

At least thats the analysis I have seen to this point. These results are hot off the presses, Im sure there will be more to come.

Re: Israeli elections take dramatic turn as official tally gives Likud sweeping victo

Obama does not appease Iran--that is a Blatant Irrational Lie, landing you back in the BIL zone for another night.
Your OP is about Bibi winning--not about trashing Obama with BILs.

Bill Kristol is the kind of Neocon idiot that destroyed 4,500 lives last decade.
And 200,000 Iraqi civilians--and 22 USA soldiers committing suicide every day.

Not to mention overloading the VA with tens of thousands of maimed Wounded Warriors Kristol doesn't give a damn about now.
Plus the five-time draft-dodging chicken**** chickenhawk Cheney who started the current Iraqi disaster .

They want a strong national defense while Obama appeases Iran and calls ISIS the "JV" team. Bill Kristol says Obama criticizing Netanyahu may have actually put him over the edge and won him the election.

No, that's just what they think. This freaks been claiming that Iran was "about to get nukes" for a quarter century, and the knuckle draggers keep following along. Oh well, I guess you get what you deserve.

The 2nd most dangerous person in the world did this after visiting our GOP and getting advice from them on how to
run a race-baiting campaign as well as appealing to the most far-right extremists elements in Israel with his two-state evolving.

The same elements who have stated they want apartheid and will be in baby's coalition.
You know, that loyalty oath thing.

Plus the dude who wants to behead regular Palestinian citizens.

Nimby now you are just attacking me and Bill Kristol (and Cheney )

Im sorry you aren't happy with the election results, that you were sure were going to turn out differently.
I think Israel made the right choice.

Yeah I dont know how they could ever get that idea. :doh

I dont expect them to gamble with that, especially considering how tiny Israel is.
We wouldn't either.

Why should the Israelis support a two state solution? we supported it since WW2 because the two state solution was the Brits Idea, and we didn't want to interfere, then they discovered oil in the Middle east and we didn't want to upset the power that goat herders who whip rape victims for being raped found with the worlds most valuable resource, now we frack frack frack away and Shia moslems who supported the Palestinians are fighting the Holy War against the Sunni and the palesitinians are being lazy griping about Israel and not fighting ISIS so they've become irrelevant.

if Israel is to eschew the two state non-solution now is the time and good for them for taking it. it was never a workable idea, if the Jews want a Jewish homeland whats the point in integrating a moslem province when 99% of the middle east is already predominantly moslem? especially when the moslems have proven time and time again to be a fifth column in their society?

the Israelis are not unwelcoming, the Circassians live in Israel and serve in the IDF and so do the Druze, (btw no one in the international community is agitating for a Circassian homeland or a two state solution in central Europe to take them back)

I never understood the hate anyway that people on the left have for Israel, Israel is practically a socialist country the palestinians are far more right wing then anything you'll find in Europe or North America

Nevermind the fact that periodically groups from the west bank and gaza strip launch indiscriminate attacks into Israel.
And even still the largest population of free democratic arabs in the middle east actually picked up seats in the election.

I'll be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Israel, I think we've suffered greatly for our support of them, they've made messes we've had to fix, and even militarily attacked us on one occasion (forum rules prohibit me from giving my full opinion on what happened there)

however, I don't fault them, they're inhabited by people with lineage to living survivors of a genocide, and frankly allowing a Palestinian state makes no sense when compared to their objectives of a jewish homeland. why is supporting a two party state in their best interests? because that's our official policy, but the reasons for that policy have long since expired, and there is no political will to stop supplying Israel weapons.

I understand your view, and think we are both thinking of the same attack you referred to. We should always hold our allies to a standard, blind support is unacceptable- in the case of Israel, I see them as a valuable strategic ally in a very hostile region of the world-even if they need us more than we need them.

IIRC, arab states actually expelled as many Jews as the Jews expelled or relocated, and while Israel accepted those Jews, many of those surrounding states have not accepted the Palestinians.

I do not see American-Israeli relations improving over the remainder of Obama's term, he's burned too many bridges there, but I hope to see an improvement down the road.

Re: Israeli elections take dramatic turn as official tally gives Likud sweeping victo

And the US continues its Israeli election-rigging streak. Israel is doomed.
