Israeli elections take dramatic turn as official tally gives Likud sweeping victory

Re: Israeli elections take dramatic turn as official tally gives Likud sweeping victo

Its a multi party system, Likud was behind by 4 points as of a few days ago, and Netanyahu has an easy job of forming a coalition with like minded parties.

If there is one thing that unifies the vast majority of Israelis it is their dislike of Barack Obama.

That being said, it didn't help the opposition that the Power Sharing agreement between the chief rivals fell apart the night before elections.

Your sarcasm always comes across so well, because your posts are known for their nuance.

So you too missed the criticism of successive administrations interfering with Israeli elections. I'll slow things down for you guys in the future.

All this sound and fury over the result of an election in a small country thousands of miles from the US that serves no political, military or economic utility to it whatsoever ! Indeed the opposite could often be argued.

Go figure

Publics in the Middle East give Obama’s foreign policy agenda very low marks. In most of the countries surveyed, roughly two-in-ten or fewer support his international policies. Israelis again stand out – 57% endorse Obama’s policies.

Why should any American much less its president be campaigning on behalf of anyone in elections in a small country on the other side of the world ?

You would have to ask Obama, who sent his 2012 field campaign manager to Israel to defeat Netanyahu that question.

That is true, they did blow it.

Hardly surprising that a western nation in the heart of the middle east would generally be friendly to the US. But on Iran, and with this weak leader it no doubt suffered.

Whats the apparent mood in Israel today amongst people you have seen/spoken with? Hows the media presenting the election results?

It was a big surprise since the overwhelming majority of the polls just before the elections have all predicted an Herzog win and the question was only by how much. Also, there was a lot of talk regarding the mainstream media being anti-Netanyahu, so Likud supporters are taking an "in your face" attitude towards them. Netanyahu even said that he had won "against all odds".

I don't particularly care which side in the election got backed by the US. Its why the US gets involved at all thats my point
