Obama, first lady fly to Los Angeles on same day but take separate flights

Re: This is the entitlement mentality that creates a $18,500,000,000,000 ND.

 Wow, it's almost like they had different schedules or something, and planned to return to DC at different dates. On a serious note, the travel expenses for this or any President are not a significant contributor to our debt, this is simply petty handwringing disguised as political commentary. The fact that this is on FNC's front page of the political section would be laughable if it wasn't so predictable.

But it is for convenience. ;)

That's nothing. GW Bush is STILL spending more than any other former President.

The costliest former president? George W. Bush, who clocked in last year at just more than $1.3 million.
Report: George W. Bush has most expenses among former presidents for 2012 - The Washington Post

Re: This is the entitlement mentality that creates a $18,500,000,000,000 ND.

Its okay though because he was a republican president. Cons can't spend too much money, only dems.

Not to mention the cost of flying to Texas constantly for vacation during his 8 years.

Oh course, the two flew to LA for real important national interest sh1t, ie appear on two TV shows on the same day. It is unreasonable to expect that the two welfare queens ride on the same plane? The two have the entitlement mentality, the only difference is the size of the welfare check.

It took four posts before someone dragged out Bush in comparison to Obama. You guys are slipping. From your link:

"Departing presidents get additional help in the first years after they leave office, one reason Bush’s costs were higher than those of other living former presidents"

Oops. Maybe you should read your own links before others do.

Welfare queens huh? It's almost like you're trying to tell us something

It's the principle. I realize that is a foreign concept to many libs. Er, excuse me, "centrists".

First ladies and their husbands have often had differing traveling schedules, especially when it comes to fundraising and the like. Expecting one of them to lag behind in a city where they have no events scheduled to cater to your principles is political pettiness and nothing more

Thank you, I rest my case. ;)

So now we're calling the president of the United States and the first lady "welfare queens." Way to keep it classy.

Flush this low-grade hackery to where it belongs.

In my mind, it's not so much the amount that's being spent, although that's also a consideration, it's the attitude and seemingly nonsensical decisions with which it's being spent.

It leaves me wondering if it's particular to this administration or a general problem with the federal government, or government in general.

I'm starting to believe the latter.

Politicians and principles - Whew - Almost spit out a mouthful of good home made beer.

This entire thread is depressingly petty.

If someone can prove that the Obama's are using government resources for personal gain, fine - do it.

If someone can prove that GW Bush's $1.3 million cost to the government in 2012 contained any personal benefit to the former President, fine - do it.

You've got five living Presidents and unlike many countries you greatly honour the service of these Presidents to their country by providing them with bare minimums of supports while they continue to serve the country even while out of office.

Like I said, foreign concept. Thanks for the verification, not that it was needed.

What style is your home made beer? I'm having a Sierra Nevada Beer Camp 2015 Hoppy Lager, as we speak. Maybe we can find common ground after all. ;)

As intended. How many times have you heard liberals snivel that Obama is the most fiscally conservative president? Does taking two planes to LA on the same day for appear on TV programs sound like guy/couple who gives a damn about being responsible with other peoples money?

Yeah, at the very least it's called, being out of touch. It's sad when it is considered "petty" to gripe about a mere $28,000 per hour.

Who, exactly, has claimed that Obama is the most fiscally conservative president? You arguing with the liberals in your head again?

Glad to see that at least you admit you're being ridiculously petty.

That we have - making Fiesta brews- 23 liter wart kits- though they do get in Muntons from GB. 2 cans, thicker than molasses concentrated - boll the water, not tap water, heat the cans to warm the wart - more work- better product.
A fellow i know warms the wart then adds the Hops, brings to a boil, lets it simmers, as hops is quite expansive. Ehen i have time I may try that
I like a Pilsner, IPA for the hops taste, and a few others. Store bought I go for Warsteiner, in Germany from the keg, when poured properly, simply delicious.
Also they have a nice German Bock, very tasty, tad sweet at times but as mentioned tasty as heck.
Going to look around for other type kits, though, 23 liter warts are the best way imho, excepting the Muntons concentrate.
Best homemade wine I made was from fresh blueberries.
I may have the recipe around. I can look if you wish?

Sometimes one has to delve into the absurd to reach your audience.

Okay, we get it. It's not their money, so they don't care, they spend as much of it as possible and don't give a crap. They are entitled.

But what I've noticed about these two is, they sure do travel, vacation, whatever separately very often. What's going on there? They sure don't seem to want to be around each other very much. Even the Clintons made an effort. These two are very happy to be apart.

When I first saw them, it was apparent that he's a bit effeminate and she's quite mannish. Very strange couple, I don't see much affection at all between them. Just an observation.

Sorry - I'm just not that beat up about it. This whole "take care of the pennies, and the dollars will take care of themselves" extremism that is rampant everywhere takes away from focus on the real issues.

I know that many people fixate on the minutia because it's easier to understand and relative to their own lives. Flying in two planes seems wasteful, but the President's agenda shouldn't and must not be impacted by the First Lady's agenda and both have offices and budgets, as approved by Congress, and as long as they operate within those budgets, what's the big deal?

Now, if you're going to say that the Obama's have been spending at vastly increased levels from the Bush Presidency, then that might be an issue, but the one-offs are just petty, in my view. And by focusing on the petty you let people skate on the bigger issues. In government, it's a well known practice by bureaucrats to put one contentious nonsense item on an agenda so the politicians and the public have something to chew on - say a $100,000 conference - and add a couple of really complicated and expensive items - tens or hundreds of millions - later on. The politicians and public wear themselves out blasting the conference and the really big stuff gets basically ignored and passed.

All I'm saying is try to focus on the bigger picture.
