Sandy Hook families sue estate of shooter's mother[W:52]

Re: Sandy Hook families sue estate of shooter's mother

Hooray for you ! You got my point :applaud

Your point is that people kill other people, and guns don't kill people? Perfect. Then what should we do about that...ban people, and that will stop murders?

Re: Sandy Hook families sue estate of shooter's mother

Yes - and you are accurate. I like the lawnmowers comparison.

Here in the States, there are people who are so extreme on the far right side of the gun issue that they feel some need to characterize anyone who does not share their almost religious like obsession as "anti-gun". For example, the most conservative US President in the last 80 years was Ronald Reagan. He was a great friend of the NRA and a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. But Reagan signed a law as governor and another as President which placed restrictions on guns so now he is lumped in with a category of contempt called GUN BANNERS. The idea being that there just might be one gun you do not want available but that makes you a GUN BANNER. And if somebody then jumps to the conclusion that the title means you want to ban ALL GUNS - so much the better to demonize your enemy.

This has to stop.

gun banners generally are not honest about their ultimate goals. They know the political price of coming out for a complete gun ban now. So they merely push for the next "reasonable" step without ever being honest about their real desires. But we can see if someone is a gun banner by their logic. If they call for laws that have no hope of actually impeding criminals but merely set the stage for an additional law, that is a good sign they are a gun banner. If they claim the government can ban pretty much any type of firearm, they are generally a gun banner. And when they refuse to say at what point a law is too oppressive or violates our rights, they are a gun banner

Re: Sandy Hook families sue estate of shooter's mother

Its the fallacy of False Equivalency. It has not at all worked well for your side and has been exposed over and over again. And it has been confronted head on right here by others.

It's worked fine, even if you dont want to recognize it. It has not been remotely exposed as innaccurate, that's false. THe fact that few restrictions have been placed on gun owners...altho the threat remains...proves Americans are not as concerned about "death" as anti-gun people would like us to believe.

I thought it spoke volumes when after Sandy Hook the gun nuts rushed out to empty the shelves of AR 15's and similar style weaponry. This is exactly the opposite reaction to that you would see in any other developed country in the wake of such an avoidable tragedy. There are clearly some very deep seated psychological problems for many within US society given this sort of perverse response.

You'll let us know when we can 'avoid' the harm that the mentally ill do, wont you?

I thought it might be too good to be true ! :lamo

the real gun nuts were the assholes in office who suggested such guns be banned because some killer used a similar weapon to kill children in violation of capital murder laws.

Yes, it was a "stupid" as people rushing out to stock up on food and water when there's a hurricane predicted. Another "sensible" statement from an anti-gun person...."prudence and preparation are stupid."

We have mentally ill too. The difference is they don't have access to the means that allow them to kill dozens of innocents with ease. Denial .... its just a big river in Africa for you isn't it ?

Re: Sandy Hook families sue estate of shooter's mother

What, that a foreign gun grabber's opinion would make any sense to a smart American? You're right.

We should be grateful to them for providing an excellent example of what 'not to do'.

I'd be more grateful if they took Haymarket and the other gun grabbers off our hands.

They dont drive? They dont have access to knives? They dont have the ability to choke out the bus driver while he's driving? Please....the mentally ill are ill....not stupid and their illness often makes them very focused and determined, even frantic. Certainly it makes many paranoid. There are a million ways they could create death and harm for lots of people.

Hey...what did you think of your country's attempts to restrict knives? LOLOL The entire world laughs at that stuff...and you guys are your own 'slippery slope.'

And when a smart American responds rationally I'll take notice

Guns automatically make it much much easier for them to kill in large numbers and is invariably the method used when access is so unrestricted

Interesting. They don't have access to rental vans? We had a young man in this country who built a bomb that killed 168 people and used a van to drive it there. They don't have access to knives? We had some young people in this country who stabbed dozens of people. They don't have cars? We had some people in this country who drove their cars into crowds and killed dozens of people.

Oh no! Ban those damn long kitchen knives! Those things kill people.

Do they jump out of their drawers and fly through the air like they did in Carrie, I wonder?

Guns make it far too easy and invariably lethal for them. Its as simple as that

What really bothers me is that the more responsibility you take away from people, the less they will ever choose to take for themselves.

You just continue to create more and more dependency and apathy. And less ability to problem-solve or take care of themselves.

Britain over reacted to a single terrible incident and *to try and feel safe* outlawed guns. Now they dont feel safe from knives, so those have been continually legislated and controlled. Now people are bashed and beaten in their homes by criminals with no fear for their lives AND the people that defend themselves are often prosecuted.

Yeah...that's were we want American headed :doh

So you're done then? Only have verbal attacks left?

You keep saying that. That doesnt make it true.

And the numbers are still far less...nutters killing people...than from car accidents. But by all means, punish *everyone* for a few, terrible incidents but continue to support the rest of the population slaughter more people in a week on their way to work than happen in these terrible shootings in a year. :doh

It seems it was easy to sell fear and "we're not safe!" in England. Not so much here.

I'm still waiting for an answer to this.

Not at all. I've locked horns with you before on this issue so I know theres not a whole lot of point in reasoning with you using facts and logic because you are too far gone. If it upsets you then perhaps you should go and stroke your guns if it makes you feel better. I've little time for flag wavers

Japan and China have had several mass stabbing incidents...of school kids, no less!

Damn, I think it's the schools that are dangerous!
