U.S. admiral raises alarm over Russian military threat

Its a Mig 23S FLOGGER the 27 had plain inlets. I used to use this photo as my avatar. This was taken at the Red Army Museum in Moscow back in 2009. They used to paint the interiors turquoise because it was thought this colour had mentally soothing properties in the high workload analogue cockpits of Russian aircraft back in the day

Have you been to the Central Air Force Museum at Monino?

I never have, but that is the museum I want to visit more then any other in the world.

I already went to the SAC museum in Omaha...that was really cool too.

For the record, my five fav military post WW2 aircraft (in no order):

- Bear
- Foxbat
- XB-70
- Hustler (probably my no.1)
- Blackbird

Honorable mention goes to the X-15...though I realize it carried no weapons and was strictly for testing/space flight.

You might enjoy these. A Soviet aviation graveyard outside the city of Zaporozhye, Ukraine.

And they're you go again. When did I tell you that everything Russia and China does is a result of US policy, hmm? Look at this again. And study it until you understand it.

Condescending comment. Everything you post suggests you blame the US first in spite of your denial here.

Directly challenging the NATO powers’ policy of cutting off credit to Russia to undermine the ruble and bankrupt the Russian economy, China is pledging to extend financial aid to Moscow.

Do you understand? If you like this trend, then keep on defending USFP!

Where exactly have I defended current US FP? I haven't. That's your straw man.

China, Iran, and Russia never bought into the geopolitical settlement that followed the Cold War, and they are making increasingly forceful attempts to overturn it. That process will not be peaceful, and whether or not the revisionists succeed, their efforts have already shaken the balance of power and changed the dynamics of international politics.

IOW, there was no settlement. This is hardly news.

Amazing...look at them all.

Even Mig 25's - once the darling of the Soviet Union and the scourge of the West - sitting in a field.

Thanks for posting these.

Not to diminish the threat, but Alaska is a long way from where you are. Me, a few minutes by bomber. And nothing with which to shoot them down apparently.

But yeah...they're challenging the borders and have been since the tanks rolled into Crimea and Harper hit back.

Perhaps Canada should buy some US weapons or something?

Or are you saying we should come in for Canada?

They're on their own. Maybe Harper should have thought about repercussions to injecting himself in Eastern European and Russian affairs.

Ok. Sorry that's all you got from that.

I didn't say that, either. Just because I don't go into a lengthy answer doesn't necessarily mean I couldn't. I choose not to at this point - have to get ready to travel. Both China and Russia have precipitated trading and currency issues themselves - much of it preceding and provoking the current situation, and you are aware of it. Ignoring such things to follow a particular view or a prescribed ideology doesn't alter that reality.

Again, I'm sorry that's all you got out of all that documentation I provided you.

Again, I'm sorry you're repeating the same error time after time after time. Repeating it doesn't make it true.

Denying the fact that US policies are pushing Russia and China together, as documented, is your error.

Crap Monte, that's been happening for over a generation. It's not new. Where have you been hiding?

Monino was closed when I visited Moscow but both the aforementioned Red Army Museum and the Museum of the Great Patriotic war (WW2 to me and you) are both superb and crammed to the rafters with interesting stuff and not just Aircraft either. Moscow is a great city to visit if you are any kind of military buff at all just go.

USS Intrepid museum in New York is well worth a look too especially now they have one of the space shuttles there . I must be one of the few people to have seen both the Soviet Buran shuttle and the US shuttle Atlantis in Florida too.

I've always had a soft spot for the B58 too. Its an aircraft that looks dramatic from every angle but it was so dangerous to operate that it was the only major US type not deployed to Vietnam even though it could be configured for carrying conventional ordinance

I actually went to the Intrepid - but that was long before they got the space shuttle. Very interesting as well. I found the ship as interesting as the planes. I was kinda hung over at the time, so I could not enjoy it as much as I wanted to.

I have read much about the Hustler. Apparently, one of the major problems with it was if one of the engines flamed out during supersonic flight that if the pilot did not immediately throttle back the other engines that the plane could disintegrate from too much yaw.
I also read somewhere that there was a rumour that they secretly tested four B-58's in Vietnam. It was probably just a rumour.

Here is a video of low level testing of the Hustler.

You're welcome. There are also hundreds of old helicopters there...

Hundreds? Wow.

A Soviet-Ukrainian 'boneyard'.
