Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O
In a recent film review [of an insignificant film I did not watch] the reviewer compared an actor, presumable white, to a rabid boar....as in swine, as in pig.
I don't know if anyone would call that racist.
My late wife could be a mean cat when assessing other women, part of the Asian culture she told me, and she said of one associate "she dresses like a monkey in heat", which we all found unabashedly hilarious as it was true. The other woman was also Asian, in fact likely from the same area of China as my wife. Would anyone find that racist before this?
Is the comment insulting to a first lady, yes. Is it a dismissible offense, presumably so, as it crossed a line, but to me it is not racist. Not if he is commenting on her fashion style
See, the difference between some and I is likely that I'm not consumed by race. I can see a comment about Michelle Obama and not consider her race one bit. Others, on the other hand, must think race first and offense then becomes a reflex. I can take a joke or funny comment on face value - pun intended. But hey, if others need to dredge up every past offense and work them into today's discussion, that's their prerogative - I just won't play along.
