If this offends you, you will just have to get over it by yourself.
I will, then. On record. I think CanadaJohn is racist against blacks. Without question.

I would also add ... that should not be the least bit surprising or at all damning. Almost ALL older, white (and conservative) people are. My grandmother is, even if she's a lifelong Democrat, and I love her dearly. Still it makes me queasy whenever I hear her make a statement that is a negative judgement upon another person, based on their skin color.

Just as I find it queasy that CanadaJohn is defending very well-known, historical racial imagery.

Ah yes, nothing like comparing a company firing an employee it was unhappy with to jihadist murders. Exactly the same, great contribution to the thread.

Sorry you missed the analogy and got it so ****ing wrong. It's comparable to the outcry of free speech - Charlie should be allowed to make fun of Muslims and Mohammed, ridicule his image, and the world should protect the magazine's humour and political bite, but a gay fashionista should be driven from the air and ostracized completely for daring to make a nasty, snide comment about Michelle Obama's looks. It's the double standard so frequently at play here - your speech is protected and sacred as long as I support it.

You do realize that he was fired by a private corporation right? He's free to continue making his comments. He's just not free to do so on their channel. There is no violation of freedom of speech.

Anyone is free to call the First Lady whatever they want. Just don't expect not to be criticized because of it.

because firing someone for what they say is just like killing someone for what they say

Doh, let's state the obvious. What's free speech have to do with Charlie? It was taken as a symbol of free speech. It's a shame you don't understand the symbolism. The White House calling a TV station to fire and shut down someone who said something they find offensive. You don't think that's a little heavy handed, a little government enforcement through intimidation?

Univision Host Rodner Figueroa Fired Over Racist 'Planet Of The Apes' Comment Towards Michelle Obama

Univision host Rodner Figueroa was fired Wednesday after comparing first lady Michelle Obama's appearance to that of someone from the cast of the "Planet of the Apes."The Emmy-winning host was dismissed over the racist remark said during his live segment on the entertainment news show "El Gordo Y La Flaca," HuffPost Voces first reported. Univision confirmed the news via e-mail earlier today.Figueroa's comment came while talking about make-up artist Paolo Ballesteros' viral undertaking of transforming himself into female celebrities. The fashionista, known for his critical "Fashion Police"-style remarks, analyzed Ballesteros' transformation for Michelle Obama with an original photo of the first lady beside it."Mind you, you know that Michelle Obama looks like she's part of the cast of "Planet of the Apes," the film," Figueroa said.Host Raúl de Molina attempted to counter the comment saying he thought Obama was very attractive. The show aired live on the East Coast and was edited for the West Coast. In addition to his appearances in "El Gordo Y La Flaca," Figueroa co-hosted the evening gossip show "Sal Y Pimienta." By Wednesday night, several sources informed HuffPost Voces of Figueroa's dismissal from Univision and the network had already taken down photos of the host from the shows' web pages.
