Sorry, but these idiots should have the book thrown at them.

I didn't say that. Another very nice which I see you rely on quite a bit.

No one is arguing to the contrary.

    Sure it can.

Notice I stated in the first reply to you that a fine would be reasonable, that Italy holding their passports until the fine is paid is reasonable. Then you want to ban them from travel and jail them. Totalitarian much?
“I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on what’s being proposed here, he’d agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute.” - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

I agree that it's horribly disrespectful. I don't think the US can ban them from foreign travel though. I could see Italy prohibiting them from entering Italy again, and I would support that. That, and a very large fine.

A large fine, like 10-15k each and banished from Italy for a decade would be a fair punishment imo.

Jailtime?? wtf? It's a non-violent crime that did very little to the actual structure of the building.

Jail is not a joke... it's something that can very easily ruin your life... No one should have their life ruined for etching their name onto a building with a coin. You can lose your job, your livelihood, future employment, physiological harm, cruel treatment, your relationships, molestation, and puts your life in jeopardy.

Jail gets thrown around waaay too often...
