CNN: Feds prepare criminal corruption charges against Senator Bob Menendez

That's the big question mark. I don't know that Europe has the appetite. They're already under pressure. Israel has clearly stated it's intentions, so I don't know that Obama is left a lot of room to do anything other than lay the deal on the table, and hope. I think it's doomed to failure, but only time will tell whether that's entirely true or not. There's little doubt that the nations of the ME would prefer sanctions to nuking up, but Saudi Arabia, at least, has given signs they're fully prepared to do just that. I don't think Obama wants to be the president presiding over the introduction of a nuclear ME.

Well the French aren't to happy about the Iranians stance on their BM's. So that's a plus. Moreover Egypt will speak out and especially if the Saud acquire their Nuke from the Pakistani.

I was reading today about Kerry stating to the Saudi's that inspections would be intrusive, a must have, and run past the expiration date of any deal made.

Didn't take long for this thread to turn into a Conspiratorial BO peeps is mad at Menendez over Iran spew.
Never mind that the Federal investigation has been going on for several months in front of a grand jury.

Did you even notice that Menendez excoriated McConnell for trying to advance the DEM sanctions bill before the Iran talks are done?
But heh, carry on with your anti-Obama noise, even though your fellow righties in this thread aren't with you; kudos to them

One does not have to believe in a 'conspiracy' to question Holder's motives. Obama does not need to "conspire", any more than Putin does - the modern enforcers know when the boss is unhappy and how to take care of business. It has not just been the past few months, Menendez has been under fire over the past three years for allegations of hiring underage prostitutes in the Dominican Republic, for accepting suspicious campaign donations and much more. (see: Your 2014 Guide to the Scandals Surrounding Senator Bob Menendez). Yet the Justice department was less than enthused with bringing down a party member. Were they waiting for the clock to run out?

But in the last six months Menendez has been a harsh critic of President Obama's policy and negotiations with Cuba and Iran and has been a staunch supporter of Israel. And Holder's leaving soon so the timing is curious - looks like the nod has gone out for a whack job.

Very interesting.

As has been said, it's Sunni vs Shia. That leaves us in the middle, which is no place to be in a dog fight.

Depends on the scope. Intrusive only means something if everything is on the table. I'm not sure, by any stretch, that everything is in fact on the table.

To pass any test on compliance it must be. If not then no deal. I have no time for Bibi has been lying for years about Irans Nuke capacity - he cannot be trusted - he was born to lie and is complicit in turning Iraq into an Iranian client state.
Extrusive means, anytime, anywhere on short notice.
Sanctions should only be suspended.
Next the US - EU has to hammer Israel on making a peace deal with the Palestinians.
No more ffn around, make the deal.
Removes 1 obstacle to the ME problems.
The US for security purposes must focus on Asia.
The ME is a distraction.

Has Holder ever gone after a prominent Democrat before? I know that there has been no action on the IRS, and he backs up Obama on everything, even amnesty for illegals.

Greetings, LowDown. :2wave:

I thought Holder was leaving the administration. Did he change his mind or hasn't the effective date arrived yet??

Hasn't arrived yet. He's on his way out.

President Obama said on Thursday that Holder, 63, intends to leave the Justice Department as soon as his successor is confirmed, a process that could run through 2014 and even into next year.

Forced agreement is not agreement. The ME can engulf the entire globe and cannot be considered a distraction. It's a significant element in reaching a greater peace, and as we've seen, an element that cannot be denied. The current leader of Israel will make no difference in the long run. Yes, Bibi is agressive in establishing a secure state, but the next leader will inevitably be the same if a bad agreement is forced. The ME solution doesn't exist. There will be no solution, only a tempering of hostilities. Rather than becoming embroiled in the day to day fist fights, we should stand outside, willing to place our weight on the side of the more righteous at the time. That's the best we can hope for. This is not acquiescence. It's an admission of reality.

I don't understand why you think Holder wouldn't do his job as the chief law enforcer? Would you expect a Republican to only prosecute Democrats?

Holder has been HORRIBLE about selective prosecution. You most likely know this already, but since EVERY case he has either stuck his nose in where it shouldn't have been or failed to stick his nose in where it should have been were beneficial to liberal ideology, you'll give him a pass...

It's Newark. They're all wannabe mafia.

How ironic!

A defender of Obama complaining that Prime Minister Netanyahu has lied!

"If you like your plan, you can keep your plan. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. Period!"

Seems I heard that somewhere along with a long, long list of lies. Throwing rocks from a glass house...my, my.

Opinion stated as fact. So funny.

Well, I am disappointed that he didn't prosecute those people on Wall Street who almost brought our economy to it knees in 2008.

Absolutely! I hate how he thinks fining those "corporate persons" has any effect on those corporations' actions. A fine is just an affordable and expected cost of doing business to these guys. They pay it and nothing changes.

Hey, Pete, does 'Activist Attorney General' ring a bell? Holder said it himself.
Heya Declan :2wave: Menendez can fight this and outlast BO peeps term til he hits pasture and then becomes the Most Insignificant Former President we ever had.

Looks like BO peep and his inner circle will have to figure out another way to remove Menendez from blocking his Iranian deal and play with Cuba.

How very interesting. I'd have to put this well within character of this president and this administration's 'politics uber alles'.
But so far, it's only a working theory, unless you've got more, and I'd like to read it over.

On the flip side, it's not that hard to imagine. After all this same president and administration sent the IRS after conservative groups, right?

Feels more like they realized their record of only bringing charges against republicans was so glaringly obvious, they had to find a sacrificial lamb. These are really bad cases. I think just about every former governor and attorney general in VA said McDonell did not break any laws and yet here he is on the way to jail because he used a telephone and the internet to do something the Justice Department turned into a crime that wasn't a crime beforehand.

Yeah, interesting how this particular administration and this particular president rolls, eh?

Menendez stepped over the line, with everything that's been alleged previously, when he heaped praise on Netanyahu and indicated he was in favor of renewed sanctions on Iran. That's playing for the wrong team, I think. Obama is very serious about his deal with Iran.

As serious as he was and is about ObamaCare. Problem with the Iran deal and ObamaCare is that he really doesn't care one thing how much a mess, how impossible and dangerous a position, he puts the nation and the next president. All he wants is that it makes it to the end of his administration so that he can claim legacy on it. Remember, he's a class A #1 narcissist, right?

Color me surprized. I didn't think the Holder Justice Department would ever go after a fellow Democrat. Certainly not a sitting senator, anyway.

On the other hand, let's see if they actually file the charges.

Interesting timing. Lets remember that Menendez is a supporter of increased sanctions on Iran and seems to be against the Kerry/Obama deal. This may be a reminder to dems that they better not get out of line with the white house.

LOL There is finally evidence of this? Do tell, I really want to know what it is, please don't bring up that Lerner takes the fifth stuff, because that doesn't fly. You must know there is not even a smidgen of corruption, right?

Seriously, do you honestly believe the president is responsible for that?

Yeah, interesting how this particular administration and this particular president rolls, eh?

The Holder Justice Department has gone to the opposite extreme as the Justice Department under Bush's AG. Why neither party has made any attempt to reign in the Justice Department is beyond me. I guess this is what happens when special prosecutors are replaced by special counsels who are still under the thumb of the DOJ and AG--the Justice Department becomes above the law.

It all depends on what the now finally recovered emails reveal. Last I recall, there was a trail that at least lead to the White House. If it goes all the way to Obama or not is still up in the air. Whether a fall guy is arranged to protect the president is also yet to be seen.

One of these newly recovered emails has already revealed that Lerner and a cohort of hers, both of who's hard drives just happened to crashed the same week (if you can believe that), were concerned about that being believable, which calls to question, whether these coinciding hard drive crashes weren't arranged, a question that I'd like answered.

After all the bold faced lies that this President has told, and you still believe him and his words? I find that rather incredible and unbelievable, really.
Please don't forget the old saying "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, same on me". Pete, don't cause shame on yourself.

so the DoJ should let him slide to avoid those optics?
then what would your side have to say about that?

Part of the politically swinging pendulum that shouldn't be swinging if you ask me. It really should be equality before the law, at least that's what one of this nation's cornerstones should be.

Sorry but you're wrong and I don't really want get into but liberal groups were scrutinized more that conservative groups were. As for the emails, if somebody had larceny on their minds, they wouldn't use government email to do their communication, they would use their private accounts they all have. Isn't funny how we all get stuck on stupid? All this is, is hate Obama.

No, it's not 'hate Obama', it might be 'hate Obama's policies', or 'hate Obama and his administration's performance (lying)'. If the criminality is proven beyond a reasonable doubt by the evidence uncovered, it needs to be charged and the offender held accountable. If not, so be it.

I would agree that the stupidity of some is utterly amazing at times, such as using official government emails for potentially incriminating communications.

As for the Menendez investigation and expected criminal charges, we'll just have to see how that plays out, but even hinting that a sitting Senator, a senior one at that, is involved in some sort of criminal activities isn't something done lightly, and would have a nearly iron clad case. DOJ or FBI don't go around charging sitting government officials willy-nilly. One would have to think that they must have something substantial.

Doesn't anyone wonder why now? What did Menendez do to draw the wrath?
