Ben Carson forms presidential exploratory committee | Fox News

Retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson has filed paperwork to create a presidential exploratory committee, making him the first high-profile Republican candidate to begin raising money for a potential White House bid.
Carson filed the paperwork with the Federal Election Commission late Monday.
“For the next few months, Dr. Carson looks forward to listening to the American people to gauge support for a presidential candidacy,” said Terry Giles, who was recently named campaign chairman. “Obviously, this is a very big step.”

I didn't really expect Carson to run. But from the look of this it sounds like he is actually extremely likely to make the attempt. I guess that makes sense considering he's hovering in 2nd or 3rd place in the polls though. I still find it extremely unlikely he'll win the nomination with his lack of political and campaign experience.

Re: Ben Carson forms presidential exploratory committee

A favorite of mine, but far too overqualified to be president. We don't elected accomplished candidates anymore.

Re: Ben Carson forms presidential exploratory committee

Unsure Ben Carson can pull of a general election, but might do well within the Republican Party. In a general election too many independents would disagree with Carson on some social issues, and the left would give him all sorts of grief on his stance that Evolution is "an absurd myth."

I think he's far to polarizing to have any chance.

When did Carson suggest evolution was a myth? If he did, that's just insane. I'll grant that there's plenty of questions about the finer details of evolution, but that it didn't or isn't still happening makes no sense coming from an actual scientist.

Carson would probably get a lot further if he ran for some office other than President.

Re: Ben Carson forms presidential exploratory committee

What a waste of time and money . . . . he has ZERO chance of being president

I honestly hope that MULTIPLE people who can actually get elected run
i dont care what party they claim, even though to get elected they will have to claim republican or democrat, which also sucks and is another issue.

I really like Ben Carson. He'd do fine as a POTUS, heads and shoulders better than who we have no.

He has as much as a chance as Palin, Cain, and Bachmann. ZERO
But you are free to like him and support him

"While popular among conservatives, Carson remains largely unknown to many voters."

The last presidential candidate to overcome a name recognition deficit was Jimmy Carter. I suspect he is a fine candidate and I have left over food in my refrigerator can do a better job of what you have now, FFS you and I could do a better job.

But can he get elected?

Dr. Carson is a fine man with a lot of sane, reasonable positions on serious issues. He'd likely be a fine President.

That said, and I'm going to get slammed for saying this, but the current occupant of the White House has made it virtually if not literally impossible for another black person to succeed to the office of the Presidency anytime soon. Had President Obama not been seen and considered to be a disaster in the office, things would be different but sadly that's not so. Just as Geraldine Ferraro made it impossible for another woman to get on the ticket, let alone succeed for over 20 years, Obama will do the same.

That's too bad actually. I really like the man a lot - I think he's a good man, and he's a smart man. The problem with him is he's not a politician. That's actually part of the reason I like him. I hate to see good people get ruined by politics.

When he comes to NH, I'll go to see him and listen to him. I can't see myself voting for him in the primary, but I look forward to getting to meet him.

I think though he'll certainly add something to the race. I'd prefer not to sit here for the next 12 months waiting for Jeb Bush to get handed the nomination. Any and all comers in the race make it interesting.

no

his out in front bigotry will keep him from even being the nominee
he would basically have to backpedal on everything he has ever said about equal rights, Muslims and his statments that there is widespread persecution of christian americans in america

It's a sad commentary on any people, and its media, when 'evolution' becomes an election issue, yet that seems to be the trend.

I won't slam you for what you said. I agree with you. It's sad but true - I don't see this country electing another black man any time soon because Obama's promise of post racial America or whatever he said turned out to be anything but - and he and Holder were a very big part of the reason for that. I'd vote a qualified black man just like I'd vote for a qualified woman. But I think many won't.

Of course I am, and you are free to whine about him. Last I heard, Palin, Cain, and Bachmann weren't running, but Hillary might, and her chances are slipping away. Im loving it.

You won't get slammed by me, in fact you beat me to it.

I agree, Obama has been so divisive that chances of the nation going to a black, two in a row after how tumultuous this has been is simply not possible.

And Geraldine Ferraro did indeed make it impossible for a woman to be on the ticket....

He has not advanced the cause by being incompetent and adversarial.

It would not be easy, the media and left would pound him the entire time. But then again, who does the left have right now?

That is just stupid. Not only does he have a definite, finite if small, chance of winning, he is young yet and the first time running is usually about learning the system and assembling a team and laying the groundwork and making the mistakes so later runs are more likely to succeed. He is only 63 and looks to be in good health so no reason he cannot run 2 or 3 more times. I am not going to support him nor vote for him, but to suggest because I don't support him his run would be a waste of time and money would be really, painfully stupid.

you are free to call it what you want but Im simply pointing out the fact its a waste of time and money if the goal is to be president because he has zero chance of winning. lol

I agree - as you know, I really like Jeb Bush and expect him to make it official soon and if he does he'll be the next President. But a vigorous and bruising primary fight is important for him too - he'll need to be battle tested before he gets the liberal media beating him up in a match up against their party candidate. And with Dr. Carson, I think you'll get a battle of ideas and policy positions rather than the fake name calling and purity tests you'll get from the likes of Cruz and Santorum etc. I keep wavering on whom I'd like to see as a Bush running mate - there are so many good choices - Dr. Carson would be another one from a non-political perspective - I'm not sure what pull he'd have in toss up states.

It's not the left, but his opponents.

I don't think he is electable frankly. Another Herman Cain perhaps, and maybe VP material but I doubt the nation will want another black so soon after Obama. The man has **** in those conrflakes
