Yes- No- Thoughts?
Drilling on land and then slanted under the ocean to the oil fields.
Location for drilling in the middle of the city on an old property.
At 100 per barrel, royalties to the city of 1/2 Billion over estimated 34 years.

HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. — This quaint and quirky seaside community south of Los Angeles has had a conflicted relationship with the oil industry for close to a century. It has variously approved oil drilling, banned it, approved it and prohibited it again. During one yes-on-oil stretch, it contracted with an energy company to put 34 wells on a 1.3-acre city maintenance yard a few blocks from a stretch of beach that normally bustles with surfers and swimmers.

The contract, which could mean hundreds of millions of dollars for the local government, received final approval from the City Council in 1992, but it has been in limbo ever since. A vote to block the drilling would come at an unusual cost: $17.5 million in damages to the energy company, the equivalent of about half the annual general fund budget in this city of almost 20,000 people.

I vote no unless the revenue results in a direct reduction of property taxes.

New Oil exploration in looney land ?

Lol...sure.

If not for California's idiotic Carbon cap and trade iniative the Automotive Company Tesla ( it should be called the Edison, its powered by DC ! ) cou turn a profit.

A few Oil wells isn't going to fix the unmitigated mess that is California.

Not a problem. There are still tons of old drill sites there. They are not on the beachfront, and they have been there for years.

Please expand upon what you call an "unmitigated mess that is California." What mess is that?

High taxes, traffic, unilateral party rule, a train to nowhere, special interests, anti-business climate, orwellian laws (on guns for example), and ignorant masses that dont know any better.

By far the strongest state economy in the nation and an ongoing balanced budget under Jerry Brown. Must not be as bad as you think.

And a balanced budget.
Go figure.

Strongest? You mean largest. Businesses and the tax base have been leaving like its cool for several years.

I keep hearing conservatives say this year after year after decade after decade. Yet it's still the largest and strongest. Conservatives bemoan the death of California every single day. When are you guys ever gonna be right?

California used to be a much better state, its getting worse every year. Enjoy your one party rule.

Much better huh? lol

Harken us back to that golden era... when was that and why? Let me guess... when Reagan was gov? :lamo

You'll have to pardon me for not believing your faux concern about one party rule when you don't once mention such concerns over the the more than dozen states with one party Republican rule.

Less traffic, free higher education to all residents (from taxes), and being a place where innovative businesses were drawn to, not fleeing from.

Moar doom and gloom BS. Fleeing huh?

Is California's population increasing or decreasing? I mean they are all fleeing right?

Governor Reagan fixed that for you.

Look at who's coming and who's going. The tax base is leaving, the poor (often illegal) and those on welfare are coming. Theres a reason we have a third of the nations total welfare cases, how much in taxes do you think they pay?

Im going to get out of California, even just moving next door, its an instant 10% pay increase due to taxes, and with a lower cost of living. There are plenty of states with NO income tax, lower vehicle registration costs, and they can actually own non-neutered versions of firearms. And lets face it, people here are dicks.

If you like high taxes and ****ty schools, you will fit right in.
