She was Hawaii's golden girl after winning a seat in Congress with support from top liberal groups, but now that Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has been critical of President Obama, her political reputation in the bluest of blue states is taking a hit.
That isn’t stopping the twice-deployed 33-year-old Army veteran from continuing to challenge the president, her home state's favorite son, over his refusal to identify terror groups like the Islamic State as driven by "radical Islam.”

I usually consider it a good thing when extremely promising young Democrats are destroyed by their own party but considering how far left and out on a ledge the Democrat Party has gone recently, and how fanatically it works at destroying freedom of speech and thought, I can't help but feel distraught and fearful for my children's and grandchildren's futures after reading this.

I know pressure to tow the party line occurs in both parties but rarely over such serious national security issues and never over something so asinine as refusing to admit that the islamic state terrorists do what they do because they believe in a dangerously fanatical version of Islam.

My very first impression when I first read the title was that this was about a Dem effort to ban knives.

It is incredibly stupid to support the usage of the term "radical Islam" because in doing so you are essentially handing a propaganda victory to terrorists by associating them with genuine Islam. So anybody who supports usage of this term is supporting shooting ourselves in the foot. The irrational desire to use the term even when it is strategically harmful to do so can only be explained as a ignorant attitude towards Islam generally, which is totally unacceptable. Usually you see this sort of idiocy from the Republicans, it is a bit surprising to see it from a Democrat this time. Glad that she is facing backlash.

No, what’s incredibly stupid is your usage of the term “genuine Islam” and the assumption that you are somehow depriving these radical Islamic ISIS jihadists of anything by sugar coating the issue with political correctness and lying to yourself about the realities of the world we live in. But of course they’re laughing at people like you. They actually practice the strictest and most literal versions of Koranic law we’ve seen since the medieval ages so an argument can certainly be made (just ask them) that they are actually the version that is most “genuine Islam”.

"Radical Islam" is a poor choice by which to refer to headchoppers but "Teahadists" is fine to use when referring to pretty much any Republican.

I simply cannot agree with the statement that I highlighted.

1. It is a fact that ISIS and their objectives are associated with and based on their radical interpretation of Islam.
2. To call them "radical Islam" does not "associate" them with "genuine Islam"...rather, it differentiates the two.

It seems to me to be a very smart thing to acknowledge that ISIS uses Islam as the basis for their actions...because they do. It also seems to me to be a very smart thing to point out the differences between the radical interpretation used by ISIS and the mainstream interpretation used by the rest of the Muslim community.

I can understand the mainstream Muslim community not wanting any association with radical Islam, but to deny any similarities and, more importantly, any differences is much like sticking your head in the sand or putting fingers in your ears so you don't have to consider inconvenient realities.

I suspect the Obama administration is taking this tact in order to gain support from those mainstream Muslim ostriches. but I think they are doing a disservice to the rest of America and the world. Nothing good was ever accomplished by appeasement.

Hilary Clinton is going to be the nomination for the Democratic party in the 2016 Presidential Elections. Hilary clinton is anything but a far leftist. She isnt even a progressive, she isnt even a liberal. Shes a typical centrist Democrat. The Democrats have not "moved left". If anything they have moved more and more right with the massive far right conservative shift in the GOP in the last 7+ years.

I'm not a member of any Party, so I don't care what they do to their own members who don't toe the line. But I hope for her sake and for the sake of the Democratic Party she does not get shut out by the powers of her Party. The Democrats need new blood...they know Obama isn't where they should be but they don't have anyone else except people like Rep. Tulsi Gabbard.

I advise the Democrats not to eat their own.

Hillary? Are you really using Hillary as the ideological barometer for the Democratic Party? Last I looked Obama was still leader of the Democratic Party, President of the United States and issuing unconstitutional executive orders and further pushing unconstitutional legislative actions through federal executive committees like the FCC, EPA, IRS, DOJ, DHS, HHS etc. and the Democratic Party is destroying one of its most promising young politicians because she dares to differ with Obama on an issue you need to be brain dead or drunk on political koolaide if you agree with him.

If/when Hillary receives the nomination, you might have a point to make but you’re just talking out of the side of your neck until then.
