White House calls illegal immigrants ‘Americans-in-waiting’

Look, this isn't about the visa holders themselves. This is about the spouses they bring with them being able to work legally. Btw, no other country I'm aware of allows this. If you're brought in on a high skill visa, generally spouses who tag along are not allowed to work.

And in no way are H1B visa holders "Americans in waiting". Their visas are supposed to expire the moment an American can be hired with the skills to do the job.

So are the spouses also so highly skilled that an American can't do the job they would take either?

And your reference is a complete and utter LIE.

Why? If one would READ the White House press release that describes the Americans-in-waiting, it in NO way refers to illegal immigrants. Instead, it's referring to the spouses of LEGAL immigrants - holders of H-1B visas - who ARE allowed to travel here with their spouses when they are hired to work here in America. They are ALL legally here, and what the White House is doing is enabling the highly-skilled immigrants (which is what H-1B visas are for) to be better able to remain here and earn their citizenship.

So...do you believe we should encourage LEGAL immigration by those who are highly-educated and highly-skilled? Or do you want to exclude them, too? There's others who have come to America who have earned their citizenship in the exact same way. One was a guy named Einstein - you may have heard of him.

doubt it
he never gets mentioned on faux news

How do you encourage legal immigration of "bright collar" workers when 500,000 unskilled workers flood the US every year?

If you are claiming "immigration reform" that gaping hole in the border must be addressed before anyone is going to take Obama seriously...which is fair as he's had seven years to do this, two of them with a full majority and he is only now, while losing seven wars, making all this a priority.

:agree: And I'm getting sick of this double talk :bs: too!

I'm still stuck on why the President of the United States is worrying about ensuring work for the the spouses of people who come to this country to work. Is that part of his job description?

It only matters if they can vote. Asap.

Wait, I'm confused. Obama dares the GOP? I thought the Republicans won the 2014 midterms in a landside. Why does Obama think he's running the show, and giving the orders? Didn't anyone tell him the news?

It's not like Boehner and McConnell seem interested in stopping him anyway.

why do you work instead of staying home while your husband earns the family's living?
then why would the spouses of these legal foreign employees not also want to be able to work

one of the smartest things we could do is open our doors to expedited citizenship for the well educated

You mean the news that Obama is still President until 2017 and that the executive branch is an equal partner with Congress and the Judicial branch? Nothing will happen without the Presidents approval and if Congress won't seek it they will be doing nothing again for another 2 years. That is how our govt. works, if you don't like it then move.

Mitch McConnell was shrewd to separate the original bill, which included both DHS funding and immigration, into two separate parts - at the last minute. Now HR240 has three amendments, two of them adopted on a voice vote, and the other voted on 234-201. These Amendments prevent DHS Funds from being used by Obama for immigration.

Our Constitution, Article 1, Section 8. Clause 4 specifically provides that the Congress, not the President, is authorized "To establish a uniform Rule of Naturalization."

The President is not above the law, which I'm sure irks him greatly, but that's life in America, and since your post explained that there are threebranches of government that are equal partners, you've made my point for me. They don't need his approval for anything that their job requires by the Constitution and Bill of Rights - they report to the people who elected them! See how that works?

Exactly what are they doing that is so high-skilled that there is not an American worker to do the job? :bs:

This goes back to the Clinton era and the India caucus (Pelosi, Kucinich and a whole host of folks who had sold themselves out on both sides of the aisle). Businesses said they couldn't find American workers to fill high tech programming and sysadmin positions. Really what the high tech CEOs wanted were a compliant and non-demanding work force they could push 80 hours a week without complaint.

So are the spouses also so highly skilled that an American can't do the job they would take either?

That's precisely why they are not presently allowed to work.

Obama doesn't care one whit if his party goes down in flames.

Because we already have a native workforce for that. And again, H1B visas are NON-immigrant visas. They have to go home after six years anyway.

H1B visas are dual intent, allowing for simultaneous application for green card status

And are they illegal? ARE THEY ILLEGAL? No, they are not...unlike what was claimed in the OP.

And besides, would you rather have highly-skilled H-1B workers stay here and become American taxpayers, or would you rather have them make their money and then take their money (and their skills) back to where they came from? Really, guy, which is better for

America?

H-1B workers are "non immigrants", because they are temporary workers to the u.s. meaning they enter through legal channels for a certain span of time... however if the over stay their visa, then they are reclassified as an "illegal alien"

The H-1B program applies to employers seeking to hire nonimmigrant aliens as workers in specialty occupations or as fashion models of distinguished merit and ability. A specialty occupation is one that requires the application of a body of highly specialized knowledge and the attainment of at least a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. The intent of the H-1B provisions is to help employers who cannot otherwise obtain needed business skills and abilities from the U.S. workforce by authorizing the temporary employment of qualified individuals who are not otherwise authorized to work in the United States.

And what happens is when they come here and want to stay in America, they apply for an adjustment of status in order to become legal permanent residents. This is not unusual - in fact, it's quite normal.

yes they can have their status changed, but they must seek to do that.......if they do not they are illegal aliens.

No, they are here TEMPORARILY and legally as visa holders. And I'd rather they end up going home and a citizen be hired in their place. You so obviously don't know what H1B visas are for. The hiring company must recertify every year that they still need the foreign worker and that no American worker is available for the job. Companies lie through their teeth and ICE doesn't even give it a passing glance. Intel and the other tech companies are notorious for this.

Educate yourself on adjustment of status for H-1B workers, which is a normal process for them to become legal permanent residents.

Is there any doubt left that this is an AMNESTY bill, not just immigration reform?

These are future DNC voters and future SNAP and Section 8 recipients... that's what the WH believes anways. Basically the future of the Democratic voting block. The WH could never identify them as law breakers or illegal.

And is there any doubt that the intent is to get these people into voting booths as quickly as possible?

No there is little doubt about that, I noted a Democratic Congressman (can't remember the name) quoted as saying the amnesty issue would affect elections for the next thirty years
