Yes, we agree that the goal of belligerent actions by one party is meant to threaten the other party. Not rocket science.

Trouble is, sometimes the other party feels so threatened that it strikes back, rather like the rattlesnake or any other species. Sometimes, belligerent threats are answered in kind.

Agreed and lets hope we give the Ukrainians the means to strike back given that other party has now carried out its threat

"Belligerent actions" has a specific meaning in these circumstances. Nothing done so far qualifies. At most this is a "demonstration." And since the US Navy has routinely operated in the Black Sea this latest episode is hardly a casus belli.

If they can't defend their area on their own, I could not care less. That is their business, not mine. No reason to put my children further into hock for their foolish armies to operate in such a lavish and criminal manner. Negative.

We agree on the meaning, thankfully. Either a strict interpretation of the meaning, or a lax interpretation of the meaning is where we differ I suspect.

Threatening another is being bellicose, on a personal level and social level. As in, making threatening moves.

Unless live ammunition is fired at the other side, "belligerent actions" are not in play.

One man's ceiling is another man's floor I guess. Men have always loved war.

I suppose that like beauty, it's in the eye of the beholder, that belligerence.

I know. How dare they try and inconvenience us by defending themselves from their large nuclear armed aggressor
