Have you seen automated ticket sellers?

To say they aren't automated is ignorant.

You don't get this do you?

I make $11 an hour. Obama raises all wages to $11 because this is gonna save us all. Except now I'm making $11...the same as the 16 year old fry cook. I don't see an extra penny, oh and the McDonald's decides to raise the cost of a Big Mac to offset paying billy $11 to do a job he was getting paid $7.50 for. Prices go up, and Obama screwed me out of money I was trying to save so I could make more than $11 an hour.

Who is going to shell out the money for this wage increase? Do you understand how business works? McDonald's sells a hamburger so they can stay open. They pay a portion of that hamburger to the fry cook, the manager, drivers, CEOs, and all that. All so they can turn a profit...not because they are evil...but because they want to make more money to live a happy life and pay for their kids too. The money they pay all their employees comes from the customer. They foot the bill.

So what happens when you raise minimum wage? You raise the cost on the customer. And you make those guys above minimum make minimum too. Thanks, but no thanks.

Maybe we could increase the strength of the dollar so minimum is worth more? Nah. That would be crazy.

Companies can not simply raise prices because they want to. The incidence of the cost will be partially borne by the market and partially borne by the employer. On the flip side, putting pay in the hands of workers means putting more money out into the economy as low income workers spend nearly 100% of her income, thus it will translate to more sales of products.

Why stop at $10? Why not make it $1,000 and hour?

Actually...they can and DO raise their prices if they want too. And exactly 0% of the money is borne by the employer. It is all market. A company doesn't make money out of the air. Do you expect a company to take a hit when they can raise prices? Why do you think things don't cost a nickel anymore? It isn't just inflation.

And you don't just put more money in the economy. You put more people on minimum wage. Pure and simple. You aren't raising my pay from $11 per hour. Leave minimum pegged to inflation. As another poster said...why not just raise it to $1000? Then nobody will be poor.

Exactly!!! I would rather make a grand an hour than $10. Why are we settling?

Oh what an informative and well written rebuttal and counter explaining how it is "circular logic".

It is actually very straight line logic. Labor costs rise, prices rise. A company, such as Walmart say, which has a profit margin of less than 4% is forced to absorb an increase in labor costs of 20% or greater cannot do so without raising incoming revenue, i.e., raising prices or reducing labor costs by automation, reducing the number of workers or other means to reduce labor costs.
Only a fool measures equality by results and not opportunities.
