the Iraqis were well armed/trained, they had advantages of armored columns , and still fled.
ISIL isn't "JV" for the Mideast. It's not as capable as some of the states, but we've seen what jihad can do to motivate

With the Obama White House left reeling from the "savage" slaughter of an American journalist held hostage by ISIS terrorists, military options are being considered against an adversary who officials say is growing in strength and is much more capable than the one faced when the group was called "al Qaeda-Iraq" during the U.S. war from 2003-2011. ISIS appeared to have a sophisticated and well thought-out plan for establishing its "Islamic Caliphate" from northern Syria across the western and northern deserts of Iraq, many experts and officials have said, and support from hostage-taking, robbery and sympathetic donations to fund it. They use drones to gather overhead intel on targets and effectively commandeer captured military vehicles – including American Humvees -- and munitions.

"They tried to push out as far as they thought they could and were fully prepared to pull back a little bit when we beat them back with airstrikes around Erbil. And they were fine with that, and ready to hold all of the ground they have now," a second official told ABC News. U.S. special operations forces under the Joint Special Operations Command and U.S. Special Operations Command keep close tabs on the military evolution of ISIS and both its combat and terrorism -- called "asymmetric" -- capabilities, officials told ABC News. A primary reason is in anticipation of possibly fighting them, which a full squadron of special mission unit operators did in the Independence Day raid on an ISIS camp in Raqqah, Syria. "They're incredible fighters. ISIS teams in many places use special operations TTPs," said the second official, who has considerable combat experience, using the military term for "tactics, techniques and procedures."....snip~

ISIS an 'Incredible' Fighting Force, US Special Ops Sources Say
It was no doubt intended to strike fear into the hearts of their enemies, but the Islamic State's latest video appears far more playground than battleground.
ISIS today released footage from its training camps, showing recruits disguised as bushes and performing clumsy roly-polies in scenes that could come straight from hit satirical film Four Lions.
The video bears all the hallmarks of the slickly edited propaganda material regularly pumped out by the terror group's media arm to dramatic effect.
From this evidence, however, their next generation of 'special forces' are far from being a well-oiled machine.

Not too many people in the administration can do that.
Not many EB, especially when one has a Vice Joint Chief of Staff saying our policies have been a failure.

The former vice chief of staff of the Army warned the Senate Armed Services Committee today that al-Qaeda has “grown fourfold in the last five years.” “AQ and its affiliates exceeds Iran in beginning to dominate multiple countries,” retired four-star Gen. Jack Keane testified. Using a term that the Obama administration now eschews, Keane called radical Islam “the major security challenge of our generation…”The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, ISIS, is an outgrowth from Al-Qaeda in Iraq, which was defeated in Iraq by 2009.”

After U.S. troops pulled out of Iraq in 2011, ISIS reemerged as a terrorist organization in Iraq, moved into Syria in 2012, and began seizing towns and villages from the Syria-Iraq border all the way to the western Syria from Aleppo to Damascus,” he reminded the committee. That leads to an “unmistakable” conclusion that “our policies have failed,” Keane added.....snip~

This is all about Obama to give himself cover to make the people believe he is actually going to do something other than drop a few grenades from a few planes that is not working. You know "I have a plan"

Going thru 3 Defense Secretaries, not listening to his Joint Chiefs, not listening to allies, says it all. Even those lefty MSDNC commentators are calling it like it is.

Both commentators also found Obama to be disconnected from the real world. Listen to Andrea Mitchell once again:

“I think that on foreign policy, his projection of success against terrorism and against ISIS, in particular, as I said, is not close to reality. They have not come up with a strategy, and they’ve built a global coalition, but again, he’s talked about Ukraine, he’s talked about Putin being isolated…but at the same time there’s renewed fighting in Donetsk, and we haven’t figured out Ukraine, we haven’t figured out how the NATO alliance can push back….So you’re right, Chris, it doesn’t match the reality.”.....snip~

Gosh according to you our military and its planners aren't worth a damn and we should all just volunteer to be beheaded.

Afghanistan is not a loss and still in progress. We didn't even come close to what the former Soviet Union experienced.

Since when did we fight in Egypt? Why should we send in troops to bumb**** Eqypt? The present government doesn't even like us.

Libya was a success militarily. What did you want an invasion?

Since when did we go to war with Russia and lose? Should we be involved in Ukraine where are lot of the population is loyal to Russia?

Did you really wany us to put boots on the ground in Syria? Why should we?

And Iraq is a mess handed over by Bush to Obama with the same withdrawal time line. And it's not a loss. It's on reset.

Heya Monte.....have you been keeping up on what ISIS has been doing in Libya this past week? I hit up a couple of the threads in The Africa forum with what they got going. While most are focused over here with this issue over Iraq.
