Gill I don't give a **** what the 'rest of the world' believed. Bush and Cheney had hard evidence he no longer had WMD's. And they 100% knew he had nothing to do with 9/11, yet they and their henchmen kept saying he did. They lied, pure and simple.

And BTW that 'large cache' were weapons were from the 80's, they were rusted and unusable when we found them in 2004. The reason Bush's Admin didn't tell us about them was because they were unusable and they were proof of yet another lie because Bush had told us that Iraq had an active weapons of mass destruction program, but finding those rusted weapons was proof they had no active program. Again, another lie and were no threat to us or anyone else.

The analysis of sarin samples from 2005 found that the purity level reached 13 percent — higher than expected given the relatively low quality and instability of Iraq’s sarin production in the 1980s, officials said. Samples from Boraks recovered in 2004 had contained concentrations no higher than 4 percent.

The new data became grounds for concern. “Borak rockets will be more hazardous than previously assessed,” one internal report noted. It added a warning: the use of a Borak in an improvised bomb “could effectively disperse the sarin nerve agent.”

An internal record from 2006 referred to “agent purity of up to 25 percent for recovered unitary sarin weapons.”

Yes, I am. If this was a real threat and proof of an active WMD program Bush and Cheney would have been shouting it from the mountaintops. But they didn't, they hid it from the American public. And even your own link admits that this Iraqi special weapons program was abandoned long before the 2003 invasion. It wasn't an active program. Bush lied.

The analogy I use is this:

A man runs in to a store and releases mustard gas, killing many. As the police close in the man escapes. The police get a positive identity from several witnesses. After a search the man is finally cornered in his home. The police enter the home and the man opens fire, killing several officers. He is eventually subdued, put on trial, found guilty and executed. The liberals then place the blame for the officers death on the Chief of police because no mustard gas was found in his home and argue they never should have entered the home.

Nobody in the world believed that Saddam had a nuclear war head and the delivery system to produce a mushroom cloud over a US city. Except for scared Americans, which is all the decider needed.

Most of the world believed Saddam had nuclear weapons, including intelligence agencies from my nation. The nuclear weapons was just a selling point to invade, which turned out to be false.

Saddam's ties, endorsements and aid to terrorist was very real, on the other hand, which is why the possibility of him having the technology to develop nuclear weapons was one people could not ignore...

What France believed is not relevant. As for the selling point, part of this was due to actions taken by Saddam himself. The UN was given 12 years to find WMDs in Iraq. The UN Security Council Resolutions found that not only was in Iraq in breach of their disarmament obligations, Iraq was also given ample time to comply with said obligations. Iraq also failed to cooperate with UN and IAEA inspectors regarding nuclear material in the region. All this managed to do was arouse suspicion in the eyes of the UN, especially the United States. If Saddam had nothing to hide, he could have merely followed the UN resolutions he was legally obligated to comply to. He could have shown the world that the intelligence of WMDs was false. He didn't, and now his people are sharing the same fate as him.

What a swell leader he was...

Lol, how disingenuous of you. Nobody thought that Saddam was a swell leader. All the arguments you make above were laid out, and Americans weren't fully buying it, there was plenty of opposition, which warranted ratcheting up the hyperbole. Until we were hearing things like, "do we have to wait for the smoking gun in the form of a mushroom cloud over a US city"? There never was such smoking gun. With any of the chemical bio or nuclear systems he ever had before or after Gulf War 1, he had nothing, nor any delivery systems that threatened us as we were to be frightened by statements like the one quoted above.

Tonight on 60 Minutes, Tyler Drumheller, the former chief of the CIA’s Europe division, revealed that in the fall of 2002, President Bush, Vice President Cheney, then-National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice and others were told by CIA Director George Tenet that Iraq’s foreign minister — who agreed to act as a spy for the United States — had reported that Iraq had no active weapons of mass destruction program.
