Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108 mill

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

Did you stop beating your wife? That's a cool one.How about the Washington Post do a story about how the state governments are doing in all the 50 states rather than singling out one state who has a governor who may run for President? Most of the time no one cares what happens in Wisconsin, what is the agenda now?
`
Actually the question is; "Did you stop beating your wife everyday." If you answer Yes, that means you still beat your wife. If you answer No, that means you've verified yourself as a wife beater.

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

What a germane rebuttal.

All I'm saying is hey, if were going to get into a debt debate, how about we get into the one that effects all of us as a whole? Not just one that only effects his state. Kind of makes you look stupid, as most here know this is just an attempt to go after him as he might be a possible candidate for presidency.

...ion debt payment

Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108 million debt payment. - The Washington Post

This is the champion of fiscal conservatism and responsible governance? Oh My. Defaulting on a payment, costing the taxpayers' kids more in the future. This is my complete lack of surprise.
Maybe if he just cut taxes some more?

So Walker, since taking office in 2011, has left $2 billion in tax dollars in the pockets of residents of Wisconsin and will potentially incur an additional $1.1 million in interest on debt incurred by his Democrat predecessors, and you want to criticize him? And you have to love a Democrat Senator talking about "kicking the can down the road" - Democrats are Olympic quality athletes in the sport of kicking the can.

Liberal spendthrifts and teat suckers are so entertaining.

Privatizing is less costly ergo less taxes ergo more money and jobs for the middle class to fill.

Really? I don't think USPS agrees with you.

I see. We are not allowed to observe policies of presidential candidates. That's called deflection.

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

Those who ignore history are bound to repeat it.

Funny, you ignore all the failed welfare states and focus on chile as an example... you are a funny guy.

Chile has everything to do with market fundamentalism.

Privatizing creates monopolies that corrupt and abuse the populace. That is why you like them so much.

Why? I'd like to hear your reasoning since USPS is authorized by the Constitution.

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

From the cited article:
"Pushing off debt payments is one tactic that he and predecessors have used in the past.

“This latest accounting gimmick kicks the can further down the road and will end up costing taxpayers millions more,” State Sen. Jennifer Shilling (D) said in a press release yesterday."

So apparently, democrat governors from a typically blue state use the same fiscal tactic and its fine...Walker does it and the OP and other democrats wet themselves.

Its going to be a fun 2 years.

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

And yet the debt that Obama
continues to let bigger daily goes unheard of in leftist circles, unless of course Bush is brought up, because as we all know, it's always his fault. This might be his as well. Who knows? Maybe the left?

Those who have nothing to say shouldn't say it.

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

Are there any other governments that the Washington Post is reporting on?

Do you mean state governments?

Like Kansas and Oklahoma having huge budget shortfalls, not because of a sagging economy, Oklahoma weathered the storm rather well, but because the CONs went ape cutting taxes without any grasp of what good governance involved... :2wave:

It is. its also a money sink that is ineffective. I avoid the usps if at all possible.

Yes.

Last year, the state had a $1 billion surplus. He cut taxes last year by $541 million. It resulted in a budget shortfall of $283 million, and may be facing $2 billion in shortfalls over the next 2 years. One way he wants to address this issue is by slashing $300 million from the University of Wisconsin budget for 2015-2017.

And guess what? The objections to this move are bipartisan. "State Senator Rob Cowles (R-Green Bay), who’s served in the past on the budget writing Joint Finance Committee, said Tuesday that what Governor Scott Walker wants to do isn’t that much different from what former Democratic Governor Jim Doyle did. “It’s similar. And if I was against those when a Democrat did it, I’m also against it when a Republican does it,” Cowles said."
Walker criticized for budget move

Let's see, what else does he have in mind? How about borrowing $1.3 billion for road & transportation projects? Borrowing another $200 million to build a stadium for the Milwaukee Bucks? Halting purchases of land by the Department of Natural Resources?

Either Walker's office is unable to do a 1-year prediction of tax revenues, or Walker was practicing voodoo economics and imagining that cutting taxes would result in an increase in tax revenues, or both.

So, yes. He should definitely be criticized when he makes irresponsible fiscal decisions.

Imagine that - through sound fiscal management Walker and his administration were able to generate a $1 billion surplus for the State last year. Now, a good liberal would want to find social programs to spend that on, but not just the $1 billion - no, that's only a down payment and they'd plan to institute $2 billion in operational expenses. Walker, however, decided to give a big chunk of the peoples' money back to the people - Scoundrel!!

And borrowing money for capital projects - scandalous. The man should be jailed. I'm sure everyone buys a house with cash and takes out long term paper to buy groceries.

I can see why liberals are so upset.

It's not their fault, really. Socialists do not understand the concept of "surplus" as "money" is there to be spent as we know what is better for the people than they do...and all such money has to flow into the government, get drained by a unionized civil service and trickled down to people so they can go into debt buying a 50" screen as opposed to paying cash if we went direct.

What really is their bitch? Walker out smarted them. He is now the guy who gave people money that didn't cost a premium. What they give is borrowed and people will know that.

"By missing the May payment, Walker will incur about $1.1 million in additional interest fees between 2015 and 2017. The $108 million debt will continue to live on the books; Walker’s budget proposal for 2015-2017 will pay down no more than about $18 million of the principal."

So he cut $541 million in taxes and incurred an additional $1.1 million in fees? Can someone explain to me how this is fiscally irresponsible?
