It's a debt that they will never have to repay, just like we aren't having to repay the Regain debt.

Our standard of living is based upon our production per capita and distribution of income, not the federal debt. Unless you expect that our nation will become less productive during your grandchildren's years (which is highly unlikely due to improvements in technology), their standard of living will be at least as high, and most likely much higher than ours has been. The federal debt is just an accounting issue.

    Haha... you're funny.

It's obvious you didn't live during the mess Carter created and Reagan fixed. It was practically impossible to buy a house then.

You may not be familiar with the Carter years or the Reagan years but there is good reason why Carter was defeated after one term and Ronald Reagan winning every state but one in his relection.
Carter was defeated due to two factors. The first factor was the Iran hostage situation, the second factor was the OPEC oil embargos which jacked up not only the price of gas, but caused widespread inflation. This OPEC/inflation situation continued into the first couple of years of the Reagan administration, during which time he was also very unpopular. Per year in office, more jobs were actually created under Carter than under Regain, and aside from inflation our economy was fairly sound.

But at least the infrastructure of the country is strong, the people are free and united, and the country is at peace. Worth every trillion.

It was difficult, but only because inflation and thus interest rates were so high. My parents purchased two houses between 1977-1982, and refinanced after rates came down. They were getting large cost of living raises twice a year to compensate for the inflation rate, so while inflation was an inconvenience, it did little to harm their standard of living long term.

Part of the way that Reagan "fixed" our mess was by the OPEC restrictions falling apart and thus the cost of oil declining (which would have happened no matter who was president), and by practicing extreme keynesian economics. He increase spending and cut taxes simultaneously (which explains why the debt rose by such a large percentage). By todays standards, Reagan would not have been electible as a republican and certainly wouldn't have been the least bit acceptable to today's tea party.

I'm 50, and I suspect that the reason that so many people my age and older are so afraid of inflation is because we did live during the most inflationary period in the history of our nation and it scarred many of us.

Yeah, that's why Carter was trounced by Reagan and is routinely rated at the bottom of the list of most effective presidents.

Except for that pesky high inflation, high interest rates, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, long line-ups at gas stations, and the Iranian hostage taking, Carter did well. It's not quite clear what that was though, which is probably why he was widely rejected after just one term.

The American people were definitely better informed then than now or they would have done the same with Obama.

No dodge. Everything has to be taken into account, it depends on the situation and opportunity costs. I learned that when I was studying financial management in college, and I live it ever day in my business career.

Except you only had TWO choices in my example.

You don't get to make up a dozen new ones just to weasel out of your comments.
