CNN/ORC poll: Majority of Americans oppose Netanyahu invite

Washington (CNN)A large majority of Americans believe that Republican congressional leaders should not have invited Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to speak to Congress without consulting the White House, according to a new CNN/ORC survey.
    The nationwide poll
, released Tuesday, shows 63% of Americans say it was a bad move for congressional leadership to extend the invitation without giving President Barack Obama a heads up that it was coming. Only 33% say it was the right thing to do.

And as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict continues to simmer in the Middle East, the survey found that a similar majority thinks the U.S. should stay out of that fight altogether.

Interesting findings by this poll. I thought that Americans who said it was a bad move for congressional leadership to extend the invitation would be a little bit lower. I also found interesting that 66% of Americans thought that the US should stay neutral when it comes to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as well...

Positive trend. There are other indicators that American patients with Israel is waning.
Killing one person is murder, killing 100,000 is foreign policy

Interesting. Yes, it was another diss to the Prez. Another juvenile move. They're having a temper tantrum.

I agree we should stay neutral, but kind of hard to do, since Israel is our ally. And didn't our country have a hand in the setting up of Israel in the first place, after WWII? It was a committee but didn't the US play a major part in that?

I do not believe that the majority of Americans even know who Netanyahu is.

Because the Republicans have been historically intolerant of non-WASPs. It was the Democrats who ended segregation, while Republicans insisted on keeping it, for example. Jews were, and in some places still are, not allowed to join historically WASP organizations. At one time, they, like blacks, weren't allowed to stay in hotels or do business with certain business establishments that were primarily owned by and supported by Republicans. Jews sympathize with minorities and other disenfranchised groups, understandably. They are also more socially liberal than conservatives. For example, most support gay rights. Jews, surprisingly, support Obama's handling of Israel's problems in the Middle East. In other words, the majority seem to be at their core, Democratic and not Republican.

Evangelicals find this a mystery, I guess, since Evangelicals are gung ho for Israel. But American Jews don't live in Israel. And American Jews no doubt remember the attitude in years past that Evangelicals have had toward Jewish people. Evangelicals aren't gung ho for Jewish people. Just Israel. Because Israel is part of the Revelations end of world thing, where Jews are supposed to all die there before the Christians can go to heaven. Evangelicals weren't protesting the anti-semitic practices in America, when that was going on. To the contrary.

Just my guess, though, since I'm not Jewish or Democratic or Republican. I have a neighbor who is Jewish. I'll ask him why he belongs to the Democratic Party. He is most definitely gung ho Democratic Party. He wouldn't vote for a Republican if his life depended on it. And his life DID depend on it, at one time.
