The crusade card works very well in a poor uneducated and highly impressionable population like that of the Middle East. Right now it is Muslim on Muslim action but being able to switch it to a Christian vs Muslim battle is the classic.. the enemy of my enemy is my friend scenario. It is exactly what ISIS wants to do....the crusades is a very powerful narrative in the region but of course American Christian Conservatives would ignore such a thing.. they want war just like ISIS wants.

All a dangerous enemy needs to grow in power is indifference to its threat. ISIS is getting that from the very administration that gave it the freedome to fan out of Syria unchallenged
Do you really think that the beheadings were unique? ISIS has been doing that to their captives and others for many many months.. it is nothing new. But they are using non-Muslims in a PR campaign to provoke the west in doing something stupid like sending in troops. They want a religious war between Christians and Muslims, and nothing helps that along as Christian soldiers on the ground fighting so called Muslims.

I don't see how anyone objectively observing the ISIS situation can't understand this. They are clearly going after targets that will tug at American and European heartstrings. They desperately want a war with the West.

Of course, all the hacks can see is "DURRR OBAMA WEAK" for not turning the entire ME into a crater, but whatever. They should (and thankfully are) being ignored.

    You are not this stupid.

What ISIS wants is for the US to unleash its military might, which (in their minds) will inflame the rest of the Muslim world into revolt and, in their moronic ideas, the ushering in of the next caliphate. They're nuts.

They don't care about dying; they don't care about their organization.

    That's precisely what it is.

Congrats, Grant. You're actually right for once.

Reading this thread is just a stark reminder about how utterly stupid a lot of our conservatives are regarding the realities of how the Middle East works or how terrorism works. I'd link the posts, but I'd get gigged for doing it. I might anyway.

So now we're all Christians? I thought we weren't a Christian nation.

    Gnnnh.

We're viewed as a Christian nation by the almost exclusively Muslim populations of the ME.

I certainly don't understand why they think that. We didn't even exist during the Crusades.

Well, our politicians basically fall over each other to invoke the name of the Christian God for everything we do, and their asshole leaders who have a vested interest in keeping people mad constantly tell them that. So no, I don't get it either.
