Where exactly were they meant to go? I suspect most of those Copts had left Egypt in the aftermath of the massacres of fellow Egyptian Christians in Nag Hammadi and the ongoing persecution of the Copts across the country. Who offered asylum to coptic Egyptians? Who was prepared to protect them? This is a horrible event but the victims are not to blame and are far from 'idiots'.

I was meaning more towards the journalists, aide workers et al. I admit it was a poor segway of whatever into this.


Given that egypt, however seems to be wanting to respond harshly here, they probably should have went home, no?

Erm, no. The repression of Egyptian Copts isn't over. I'd be pretty stressed if I were a Copt; damned if you leave, damned if you stay.

They were laborers there to rebuild a city destroyed in the Libyan civil war there. Copts have never had it easy in Egypt, but they would not flee to a place held by even more extreme Muslims.
 
What is clear is that exactly everyone is afraid to fight ISIS. Air power only. For this it seems clear that ISIS execution-terrorism is 100% successful as to their goal - to make everyone terrified of actually fighting them directly.

I wouldn't want to fight the son of a bitches, call me a ***** all day long if you'd like. But I preferred a time when Hussein, Mubarak, Gaddafi and Assad had them contained.
