Does It Matter That Oregon's New Governor Is Bisexual?

how does letting two lesbians or two gays marry hurt anyone? I am still trying to figure out how my marriage to my wife is impacted in the least by allowing two dudes to marry or by allowing a lesbian to have a wife

I never said that it did. I sad that she takes a very unbalanced approached to homosexual rights and that she allows her sexuality to influence her politics.

It doesn't. But gawd hates it.

I think it's a matter of principle, changing the definition of Marriage and what it has stood for coupled with the "through the court" fights vs any attempt at common ground that has made this a broken issue in this country.

Tsk, tsk, what are you afraid of? Or more, why don't you accept your inhibitions?

no, it doesn't matter at all.... not even a little tiny bit.

for those who think it's she's an abomination in office.. **** off , her sexuality doesn't matter.

for those on the other side thinking it's the greatest thing since sliced bread for her to be a bisexual in office...**** off, her sexuality doesn't matter.

Oh, so nice of you.

Does It Matter That Oregon's New Governor Is Bisexual? - Bloomberg Politics
On Friday afternoon, Gov. John Kitzhaber of Oregon resigned, and the Oregon secretary of state Kate Brown, also a Democrat, became the state governor. In an instant, Oregon had the first openly bisexual governor in American history.

For many of Gov. Brown’s constituents, this may mean little, because she is married to a man, and has been for many years. The adjective becomes easy to explain away, then; bisexuality is often dismissed as something made up, a risqué adolescent antic, something college girls do to impress boys. Last January, Lisa Diamond, a scholar of sexual orientation, told the reporter Michael Schulman that many people feel bisexuality “is a transitional stage or a form of being in the closet,” but that in fact it’s more common than strictly same-sex attraction.
A married practicing bisexual is committing adultery and that in turn calls their integrity into question and undermines their trustworthiness to hold office.

Only in that she takes a very unbalanced approach to homosexual rights. She allows her sexuality to influence her policies...

How so? Can you please provide some examples?

Did he mean that she supports SSM?

What about all the straight politicians, including governors, that support SSM?

If that's what he meant it makes no sense.

I don't care if she's bisexual, likes to be tied up with iPhone charger cords, licked Magic Shell off Bruce Jenner's flowing locks, or screams out her dog's name during sex. Why do we ever need to know someone's bedroom preferences?

Bi-sexuality exists within the range of sexual orientations.

Sex is an act.

Do you have anything to indicate she is a "practicing bisexual" and is having sexual relations outside of marriage?

A Priest can be heterosexual and choose a life of celibacy, just because he doesn't perform a sex act doesn't mean he isn't heterosexual.

If she's only having sex with the person she's married to then her 'bisexuality' is nothing more than immaterial feelings with no literally real manifestation in the world. That her bisexuality an issue for discussion means there's real-world behavior bringing the subject to light.

I care very deeply for that. We don't need iPhone loyalists in office. Go Android or go home.

Then provide examples of "this real-world behavior".

It seems to me you are still confused about sexual orientation and sexual acts.

A couple of things.
First...her sexual orientation has ONLY been a point of consideration because of HER declarations. She has run for and won some form of political office in Oregon for over 20 years now and no one has cared.
Second...I think bisexuality is far more commonly accepted than homosexuality. Bisexual people tend to present as more 'normal' (pull back the claws...not making a judgment...stating fact). In women, I dont think people find it all that upsetting or shocking. In men...well...once you get past the automatic negative response associated w/ man on man equals less of a man...you are back to 'but its not that big of a deal'.
Third...Bisexuality kinda works both sides of the 'born that way' and/or 'we can choose our sexuality' argument.

At the end of the day...its an Oregon thing...and people from Oregon have supported her for 20+ years.

From a guys perspective...I hope her girlfriend is hot!

That's what I came to this thread to collect. I want to know what is causing this to even be an issue for discussion.

It seems to me you are still confused about sexual orientation and sexual acts.
Not confused at all. If this is just her haveing feelings then there would be nothing to talk about. Since it's in the news then that means something happened which relates to her sexual preferences. Did she have a sexual relationship outside her marriage? Is a special interest group her key financial supporter? What?

how so. what is the balance on "homosexual rights"? butch lesbians can marry lipstick ones but two effeminate male gays cannot marry each other?

Only in that she takes a very unbalanced approach to homosexual rights. She allows her sexuality to influence her policies...

Do you have an example of that?

Do you feel heterosexual governors have an unbalanced approach to heterosexual rights?

What about religious governors?

(and just to be clear - I don't think her bisexuality matters, to come back to the op)

a) you have no proof that she is having sex with anyone but her husband

b) many officeholders have committed adultery. A lot of them have lost their offices because of it. Others haven't. It's up to Oregon to decide

Sexual preference has nothing to do with what you were elected or appointed to do.
