Police in Washington state fatally shoot man who threw rocks at them

Washington must of taken notes from the IDF.

You watched it in slow mo...cool. Tell me...does he have his hands extended? Does he move both hands to his waistband (he quite clearly does) and then does he again extend his arms in what can very easily be assumed a shooting stance? Or do you too feel he was suddenly defending himself from the imaginary tickle monster?
My opinion in regards to those both has already been stated. You are both wrong.
He did not reach into his waistband. His hand didn't even touch it.
His body shifts position when he lifts his leg which makes it appear that his hands are closer to his body than they actually are. This can be confirmed from the continuous motion of his hands.
At the point in question he appears to be readjusting his grasp on what is already in his hand, which then falls out of his hand as he is shot.

Yeah, looks the same to me. He was in the process of a throwing motion. I believe one of the witnesses had indicated he had two rocks.. but had only thrown one at the police. Likely it was another rock. I don't see the reach to the waistband either.. but considering the cops wouldn't have had nearly the time we did.. It's very possible they thought that his hands did go there.
Their point of view was closer and more direct. From what I see from the video, that would not be something they would have thought as his hands remained away from his body.
Likely they saw him shifting his grasp on the object and lifting his leg which would be an indication he is going to throw it. Which is a threat.

Hands extended out, hands reach towards waistband, hands extend out in shooting stance. There is no other way to see it. Wait...rev gave one. The giant tickle monster got him and he momentarily defended himself.

No VanceMack. His hands did not go to his waistband. His body shifted when he lifted his leg making it appear his hands were closer to his body than they are. This is shown by the continuous motion of his hands.

Here is the the slo-mo version buck posted earlier.

Nice...a little random anti-semitic slur slid in for good measure. Why not.

Oh for Christ's sake, talk about no where to run!!!! Pointing out the heavy handedness of the Israeli military does not equate to anti-semitism. Is critique of Israeli policy off the table with you. You guys attempt to shut down criticism of Israel by playing the anti-semitism card just as you accuse the left of attempting to shut down criticism of Obama by playing the race card. Both fail!!!!!

It's ok, tuck your shirt back in.

His hands are out, dart to his waistband and then dart out again. In the span of 1 second and while he turned to face the cops.

No doubt...I have no desire to be a cop. Absolute reality is that I spent 6 years being the person in between the cops and the crisis situation. I relate more to the prisoners I worked with than the probation officers. I have demonstrated that I am not blindly pro cop. Even in this incident I clearly stated they were wrong to shoot at him when he was throwing rocks. The second part? Thats a righteous shooting. You dont see it because you dont want to see it. Not much you can do when you the blind refuse to see.

a "righteous shooting"? it was a gunfight that started in the middle of a busy intersection full of people, women, and children. The dead d00d didn't have a gun. That's the bottom line here.

Throw?

if he played slow pitch softball maybe.

This will be key, if they "thought" this, it may be ruled justified, but they should be dealt with for discharging thier firearms on a fleeing suspect in the middle of a busy intersection.

Not really. He was getting ready to rock back to throw something overhand but got shot near the beginning of his windup. I'm more likely to blame the stupid asshole that decided he would trun around in a manner that can be read as aggressive when being chased by cops than the cops who were just defending themselves from said asshole.

Oh dear!!

What about the "stupid asshole" cops who fired shots at this "stupid asshole" running away?

And no, that speculation regarding wind up, does not match the video.

Oh dear!!

Not sure what the oh dear was about.. but if about the word asshole, I guess it's acceptable here. I truly expected it to be automatically astericked.

At the very beginning? Don't have nearly enough information to judge that. Neither do you.

And no, that speculation regarding wind up, does not match the video.

And yes.. It does. It's almost certainly what he was doing. The video makes that pretty clear. Brings his hands together, starts to wind up then gets shot. You'll see, when this is all done, they will confirm that. I suspect they will also say the officers had no idea what he had in his hand, just like Quanell X said - but that is far more speculative then the wind up to throw something.

I said the shooting in the intersection was 'wrong'...didnt I? And you yourself said the presence of a gun isnt necessary to justify a shooting when the cops shot the dumbass in Utah. Essentially the same scenario.

I don't have enough information to judge that discharging your weapon in a heavily populated area on a fleeing suspect is not an "asshole" thing to do?

Really?

Nonsense hands out as he's running, turns around in an almost pleading recoiling manner, hands get thrown out as defensive. That's what it looks like to me. But yes, I think on the second part all the cops have to claim is they feared for thier lives.

on the first part, they should be fired for endangering the public for no good reason.

No, the one in utah there was a report of a gun, that kid was acting like he had one and behaved as if he was going for one.

This guy did not do that, plain and simple.

There was no report of a gun, just rocks.

Really. Do you know if he was putting others lives in danger, pulling a weapon? What the intiial call that caused them to respond indicated? Anything else? I don't.

Well, you are wrong.. but I will say.. The fact that we have this video in slow motion and zoomed in and still can't agree... is proof that the cops can be expected to be even far less certain in real time as to what he was doing.

One can clearly see the man running away with his arms out and the police, in a busy intersection shooting at him.

Had they hit a woman or child, I doubt we would even be having this discussion.

Video is at a certain resolution, cops dealt with and saw the dood, I'm sure they saw more than us. That said, once the rounds started firing the first time, continuing to pull the trigger becomes less of a concious thought process.

Homeless man shot dead by Pasco Police for 'threatening behavior' | Daily Mail Online

Small update. Apparently the initial call was regarding the guy throwing rocks at cars.

I like how this proves how unreliable the eye witness accoutns are. I believe they all indicate that he was shot while running away, with at least two indicating he was shot in the back. Since we have video, we know those are incorrect statements.

I imagine it's similar to what occured with Michael Brown. He was initially running, turned around, and the cop, (likely) legitimately scared, shot him. It didn't register to those witneeses either that Brown had turned around - which we know he did based on the forensics.

Uhm.... we already knew this.

Forensic science can sort that out.

From your link:

It's the fourth fatal shooting involving a Tri-City police officer in Pasco in the last six months

Officers have been cleared of any wrongdoing in all three previous cases

so wait, most police never use thier service weapon, most never draw it in thier entire career, this guy has killed three others? I bet it was the guy in the front.

This is something we should look into more, no?

Uhm.... we already knew this.

I hadn't seen that indiciated before. Someone earlier in this thread also indicated that the reason for the officers to show up was unknwon. Shrug. I may have just missed it.

To go along with your misreading of what the guy was doing when he turned around...

They are not saying this is the 4th shooting involving this specific officer. They are saying it's the 4th shooting from a cop in Pasco. They then say officers have been cleared - so there was clearly more than one officer invovled.
