Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback (R) on Tuesday rescinded an executive order that extended anti-discrimination protections to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered state employees, outraging equal rights advocates who condemned the move.

In its place, Brownback issued an order that his office said committed the state to employment practices that do not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, national origin, ancestry or age. Sexual orientation and identity were unmentioned in the new order.

Well this heartfelt move will fix their buget crisis.

Ps,
Moments later a bill was introduced then dismissed

I can understand wanting it done through the legislature. But why doesn't he leave the executive order in place until he introduces a bill and gets it passed?

oh. Because he's Brownback.

Think it's just "bread and circuses"? Distract Kansans from the mess he's created?

Remarkable that people who claim to be "equal Rights advocates" clamor for special measures designed for certain groups.

You know, the protections protect everyone. Not discriminating based on sexual orientation protects straights as well LGBTs.

Here's the list from the article of what Kansas protects:

That list protects YOU, regardless of your race, your gender, your religion, your origin, your ancestry, your age.

Sadly people do also discriminate on sexual orientation; that should be part of the list as well.

Since when is "equal treatment" defined as "special"?

when it causes someone else to lose their livelihood and way to provide for their family.

People treat people differently on the basis of body odor too. Should that be added to the list too?

what certain groups are you referring to the order he resended protects everybody in the whole state . . . . everybody lol

when it causes someone else to lose their livelihood and way to provide for their family.

equal rights doesnt cause that, it protects livelihood and ability to provide for ones family

Why does the governor of Kansas get to rule by executive order anyway? I thought this was a bad thing.

The narrative for tyrannical executive powerlust is limited to the opposing party. When it's your own party, it's leadership.

Kansas governor rescinds order protecting gay state workers

The Kansas action comes after the Arkansas Senate this week approved legislation to prohibit cities and counties from enacting ordinances against discrimination based on sexual orientation, which is not covered by state law.
In Indiana, Republican Gov. Mike Pence is backing a measure aimed at protecting people and companies from having to participate in same-sex weddings. A similar proposal failed last year in Kansas, with critics saying it would sanction widespread discrimination.

Sam Brownback is a complete and utter scumbag.

You must be giddy with excitement.

Re: Kansas governor rescinds order protecting gay state workers

You know if I did something hateful and shameful to just one person I would have a lot of trouble sleeping at night. Yet these assholes like Brownback can be hateful and spiteful to a tens of thousands of people in his own state and by all appearances sleep just fine knowing what he did. Brownback evidently had a problem with the notion that the state should not discriminate against gays or lesbians when hiring state employees. If one of my kids grew up to be a man like Brownback I would be ashamed as a parent.

I would think the marriage license fees would help with his budget.

He would have to evolve for a few million generations to reach scumbag.
