I'm aware of that, which is why I wondered if it will be a trend. Still, we're kind of awesome that after nearly a decade and a half of demonizing Islam it's not a trend already.

In a perverse way, that does make a lot more sense. I did think it was iffy that fox was so quick to clarify he was an atheist but didn't want to say anything quite yet.

Well we know FOX News doesnt like atheists either so they might have set up the initial headline as something along the lines of atheists versus Muslims.

I figured something like this only because of the comments that they were using against the guy, such as what he posted. None of those seemed to truly indicate a hatred of people who were religious in a way that would lead to him hunting them down to kill them specifically.

Now, it is obvious that this guy has huge anger issues given the level of violence demonstrated over a parking issue. So far though, there is no evidence to me that this was due to their being Muslim or his being atheist.

Rather than pondering this guys sectarian tendencies perhaps it would be more pertinent to debate why someone with these 'huge anger issues' was ever allowed access to a firearm in the first place.

Might be beneficial to actually know the whole story before declarations are made. For example...

So...we'll see. Maybe it was a fundamentalist extremist that killed in the name of God. Or...maybe it was an ignorant asshole that did something heinous. Lord knows we have more than a few of those incidents going on.

Not too hard to figure out. We simply don't know from just looking at someone or simple, short term interactions whether a person has such issues. Some people are very good at hiding them. Others it is mostly internal anger until it explodes in a violent outburst. People aren't cookie cuttered, even those with mental health issues.

Perhaps the sort of psychological screening mandatory in other developed countries would help, though as I understand it theres resistance in some quarters in the US to even known mentally impaired being denied access to firearms

Which wouldn't necessarily help and could be wrongly used to misdiagnose and keep people from having a weapon who don't have any such mental issues.

What I've seen, is people like this will simply beat the person who they are pissed at to death or do something else to them. They also could easily find a mental health professional to sign off on them.

Its much much harder to kill someone in this manner. I suspect all three victims would have been alive if he had not been armed

While true, we are not going to get rid of guns in this country, legal ownership by the citizens. And trying to prevent people from getting it based on suspicions of possible mental problems will only lead to more issues. This is not about gun rights, no matter how much you wish to twist it that way. This is an isolated incident about anger issues. Possibly mental health problems that were hidden, possibly that simply developed after the person first got the gun. Honestly, I don't even know if the person had the gun legally or not.
