Sony Pictures Entertainment Brings Marvel Studios Into The Amazing World Of Spiderman

Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger. Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films.

Marvel and Sony Pictures are also exploring opportunities to integrate characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films.

The new relationship follows a decade of speculation among fans about whether Spider-Man who has always been an integral and important part of the larger Marvel Universe in the comic books could become part of the Marvel Universe on the big screen. Spider-Man has more than 50 years of history in Marvel's world, and with this deal, fans will be able to experience Spider-Man taking his rightful place among other Super Heroes in the MCU.

Okay, so this isn't out on news sites yet BUT I thought it'd be okay to use this as a place holder until major news networks report on it. I am both excited about this and holding some reservation. Sony has made some astoundingly ****ty Spiderman movies as well as some good ones. Marvel has a few home runs under its belt and I think they should have complete creative control if this actually goes down. It'd be cool as hell to see Peter Parker and the Avengers. It'd also be interesting to see Marvel take it in a different direction and give some screen time to Miles Morales or May Parker. Though, admittedly, I'm not sure whether that would actually work with the continuity of the Avengers. I also wouldn't mind them doing a Deadpool/Spiderman team up in the future. As long as this works out well and doesn't end up being a dead end, I have high hopes.
I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality. - MLK

Didn't Spider Man play an important part in the Civil War arc? I've never been particularly fond of Spiderman movies, so we'll see how this goes.

In the comics yes. However, at this point, it'd be too late for Spidey to take role in the upcoming Civil War movie. Just too far into the production phase. Besides, it was made pretty clear that Black Panther will be taking that role.

I am 100% okay sitting through another origin story if it means a Spiderman series that doesn't suck and some involvement in the Avengers.

I'd ONLY be okay if they went with a full reboot. And by that, I mean bring in Miles Morales.

    1. Excellent news. Spidey is such a great piece for the MCU to have.

    2. I think there's at least a mildly realistic chance we could get Miles Morales. A lot of the MCU seems to borrow from the Ultimate's univese. Peter Parker is such an iconic super hero that it'd be quite easy to have him show up in Marvel Movies without needing an "origin story". As such, you could easily actually establish Mile's "origin story" in a larger Marvel movie with him witnessing the death of Spider-Man....leading to Miles as the lead character in a new Spider-Man movie, playing off that "origin". After two reboots in a decade's time span of the Peter Parker story, if they're going to be rebooting Spider-Man yet again it may be beneficial to do it with a different man under the mask.

    3. Regardless of whether they do Miles or not, Spidey does not need yet another origin story. Tell the origin in the first 10+ minutes if absolutely needed and go from there.

    4. The Spider-Man portion of the Civil War isn't likely as needed nor would have as much impact. With the way that super heros have been working in the MCU up to this point, the notion of needing to protect one's identity isn't as big of a deal. Hell, every shield agent now has their identity floating around on the internet thanks to Black Widow's actions at the end of Winter Soldier. The impact of Peter Parker revealing himself to the world would not have as much of an impact. This Civil War is likely going to be less about revealing of ones secret identity and more about being conscripted to the government.

That said, I want this somehow some way in the movie whether it's aimed at Spider-Man or someone else...
