Israeli official suggests Boehner misled Netanyahu on Congress speech

(Reuters) - A senior Israeli official suggested on Friday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had been misled into thinking an invitation to address the U.S. Congress on Iran next month was fully supported by the Democrats.
Netanyahu was invited by the Republican speaker of the house, John Boehner, to address Congress on March 3, an invitation Boehner originally described as bipartisan.
The move angered the White House, which is upset about the event coming two weeks before Israeli elections and that Netanyahu, who has a testy relationship with Democratic President Barack Obama, is expected to be critical of U.S. policy on Iran.
"It appears that the speaker of Congress made a move, in which we trusted, but which it ultimately became clear was a one sided move and not a move by both sides," Deputy Israeli Foreign Minister Tzachi Hanegbi told 102 FM Tel Aviv Radio on Friday.
The interviewer asked if that meant Netanyahu had been "misled" into believing Boehner's invitation was bipartisan, a characterization Hanegbi did not contest.

It seems that some Israeli officials allied to Bibi are stating that he was "mislead" into accepting the invitation. They state Bohner claimed that this was a move supported by both sides of the aisle in Congress, but it is increasingly looking like it was not. However Hanegbi stated that Bibi will not be rescheduling, or canceling his speech he plans on giving to congress.

Perhaps Boehner did underestimate what low levels the Democrat party will stoop to. You'd think he'd have learned by now.

I think it is supported by most of both sides of the isle. What you have is the Dem Congressional leadership through gritted teeth backing the President. You've also got some new blood, not much new blood, but some who have been reared on Ilan Pappe revisionist BS and find now the right time to flex where they'd otherwise be kept in line.

I guess official Israeli Consuls are "stooping to new low levels" too then?

Yup. Totally. But hey, I get it, it all swings back to Obama. Consul are warning that the speech is going to gain negative reactions not just from Democrats in Congress, but US Jewish communities, and Israel and US allies. But yea, lets just go with, "Its Obama!"..

Most Democrats support his speech. It's a directive from leadership that's insisting they distance themselves. And why would the Jewish community be against the leader of Israel speaking to Congress? That's absurd.
