I saw it on the news this morning and apparently there are about 15 people still unaccounted for who they believe were in the front of the plane. They're also speculating that the pilot gave off a Mayday call.

Can you imagine if they had hit all of those apartment buildings? And ya think the people in those cars will have nightmares for years? I know I would.

It appears that the pilots were able to aim away from buildings, the plane was attempting to turn around and land, and the sink rate was too fast. The airplane was only 10 months old.

I heard that it was a new plane too. That's strange, very strange.

Have there been any updates since early this morning? The challenge they were having was that it was nighttime there. They were hauling the debris to the shore to try to turn it rightside up.

All things considered, the pilots were able to miss the buildings and the bridge and impact at a fairly low speed and fairly level. They managed to keep the pitch up, bleeding off speed and preventing a nose dive which would have been 100% fatal.

Serious issues with this airlne, they crashed an ATR back in July which killed 48, they crashed a cargo plane due to icing, had a plane overshoot and roll into a ditch, etc. I didn't even realize there was another airport in Taipei. Spent many a morning at the international airport there. 12 hour flight, land at 6 am, have a few weird beers in the bar and catch a connection...LOL

Simply amazing video. Stunning. Imagine being in that car? I'd have wet myself.

Re: Transasia ATR 72 Crashes (dashboard cam video)

It's only speculation on my part, but it kind of reminds me of the "Sully" Sullivan crash in the Hudson several years back in that it looks to me like the pilot knew he was in trouble and was tying to splash down in the river to save as many as he could. It looks as if just clearing the apartment buildings, he lost control and started to go into a roll and hit the bridge - probably coming in way too fast to actually accomplish what he hoped to.

The fact the pilot was able to get the plane into the water likely saved the dozens who walked away and he is a hero for doing so.

I don't know what the cause is, but we seem to be having a rash of plane crashes this past decade or perhaps it's just the media flood that makes them more apparent. Either way, it would terrify those who aren't regular, seasoned flyers.
