Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CAPPI

Re: Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CA

when the market was flooded to the point oil being half the price of what it was earlier this year.

I don't think you understand the definition of a commodity.

Re: Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CA

I don't think you understand the definition of a commodity.

No i understand it. The commodity losses value when the supply is high.

But it doesn't stop being a commodity does it?

Re: Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CA

it is less of a commodity.

Re: Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CA

it is less of a commodity.

I suggest you look the word up. It might help clear up your confusion.

We are using less than we have in the past. Therefore it is less of a commodity.

"Roads, Bridges, etc..." It is the "etc" that you conveniently leave open in your argument...Can you show me Minnie where the United States has to gain your approval on projects of 'free trade' that the State Dept, has signed off on?

You can't have it both ways Minnie....Whenever we talk about more drilling in the US, one of the arguments is that it won't benefit us because it is a global market, now you turn on a dime and scream about private companies making profit....

My thought is that they will offer, and negotiate until it becomes clear that ANY price won't be enough for some, then the project will take into consideration their concerns, and do it anyway....At some point, you can't allow an individual, or individual group to hold out as a kind of blackmail against a massive project like this.

So you think that they should force people to give up their property at cut rates in order to create this pipeline???

I see you are arguing against the idea that Eminent domain should not be allowed, so does this mean you agree with its use?

Obama won't veto this because he's a wimp.

If you use your car less, is it less of a car ??

Re: Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CA

I would argue that while still a car, if everybody used cars less, then the value of the car would decrease. Just as oil is still oil, a car is still a car, just worth significantly less.

Re: Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CA

There are MANY other oil pipelines that already come out of Canada.

Whats the big deal?

This one makes an efficient connection to an additional source.

Re: Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CA

For "best for the U.S." or a "best for Canadian oil companies and a few companies in the U.S." There really is a difference, which is why the whole "eminent domain" thing is an issue.

No one objects to the idea of eminent domain for projects that serve the public. Only conservatives on this thread have no issues with eminent domain to help out a few players in the energy sector.

A strong energy sector helps us all.

Re: Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CA

Where's the public use or benefit? If it's JOBS!!!, then pretty much any major project means landowners have to make way for the Jobs Creators! Shouldn't be a problem - heck, most landowners will be "delighted" to sell their farms and homes to make way for progress!

You're getting way too emotional. The project will create some jobs, but it would be a great value even if it created none. It is a benefit to the US in and of itself.

Re: Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CA

A strong energy sector helps us all.

Well, so does more JOBS of any kind. It's a non-standard.

You're mistaking sarcasm for emotion. And you're just making baseless statements - "It is a benefit..." Meaningless. Versus what? To whom? If it's versus expanded solar power that doesn't require an endless stream of fossil fuels being extracted from increasingly marginal sources like shale, I'd say it's a net harm.

Its benefit is self-evident. It is a valuable addition to US infrastructure at no cost to the US. As for solar power, the time required for solar to surpass fossil fuels in efficiency and cost is measured in centuries.

Re: Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CA

Sorry, but that's an incomprehensible post.

You said, "A strong energy sector helps us all." Well, "More jobs helps us all." So what? Those are both statements that offer zero objective standards to evaluate anything.

So what. I did not write them to be evaluated.

OK, we're not getting anywhere. And you'll have to find a link about that "efficiency and cost measured in centuries" assertion. Cost for solar have been plummeting and are already competitive with coal. Wind is cheaper by some measures and that price is also dropping steadily.

OK, so you had no real point. Got it.

Re: Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CA

I made my point. It's self-evident.

No one else got it, but OK - or as the kids say, 'whatever...'

Neat photo. That's the solar station that commercial pilots complain about for blinding them if they get within 200 miles of it. It is also frying thousands of birds that get near it, including many endangered species.

Solar will ill never be competitive until an economiCal storage method is developed.
