As expected it passes the Senate. Now its gonna get a veto and go back. Its gonna easily overcome the 2/3 requirement in the House the big question remains will it overcome the 2/3 in the Senate?

The Senate will not over come the Veto, but politically it is brilliant. It will put all those democrat Senators 'on the record' as opposing it for the 2016 Election. There
is another 1/3 of Dem Senators that have to face the voters for the ObamaCare debacle in 2016, and this vote will be another nail in their coffin.

Re: Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CA

Finally, I'll say again that I would be for it even if it created no jobs at all.

If....big IF, I know....the pipeline created no jobs, what would be your rationale for a foreign corp. using eminent domain against US citizens?

No. I'm simply asking for some information.

The GOP is going to have a tough time holding the Senate in 2016. Too many seats up on their side along with the Presidency in play. Their money will be spread a lot thinner than the DNC.

Re: Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CA

Sorry, but the article I posted does not disagree. It properly describes uncertainty in projections, but also notes the logic of increased employment in refineries and related industrial activity. And your propaganda figure of 35 jobs remains laughable. Finally, I'll say again that I would be for it even if it created no jobs at all.

Please point to that section.... I must of missed something.

That is it thank you for the great points

The oil will go to developing nations like Korea and Latin America.
No. It goes to Canada... "The United States exports only small volumes of domestically produced crude oil, most of it to Canada, which may actually return to the United States as refined products." How much of the oil produced in the United States is consumed in the United States? - FAQ - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)
And Kore has a net loss... Net Imports of Total Crude Oil and Products into the U.S. by Country
Also Latin America isnt a country.....

But what does this have to do with anything?

Developing nations need fuel oil. Get over it. People other than Americans need gas and heat.
Ok... I dont think I said they dont need it or that people "other than Americans" dont need gas and heat..... So whats your point?

Re: Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CA

He's already said he will veto. This is short-lived. Sorry NP.

And how often has Obama said things that didn't end up that way? Saying, posturing is one thing. Actually doing it is quite another.

You may be right, and he'll veto it. But he hasn't vetoed it yet.

Canada is not wanting the Keystone pipeline to go through the US just to end up back in Canada.

Remember, Obamas executive order to delay the implementation of the Employer Mandate until 2015. Employers and soon employees are just now starting to feel the pain.

Re: Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CA

The added strength to infrastructure and capacity in the Gulf area would be significant. I have not claimed large jobs impact; I was merely refuting a claim that only 35 permanent jobs would be created. Generally speaking (without the uncalled-for nastiness) I agree with you.

... the "nastiness" was not directed at you.... it was directed at those the continually tout this thing as some type of great piece of economic legislation. Many people have argued that we should build this thing because its going to create all these jobs. Its not. Just build it because it makes sense and stop (again, directed globally) being disingenuous. Sorry, there was no personal intent there. I do think this is a silly issue that people (in general...and, on both sides of the aisle) spend too much time worrying about.

If he vetoes it he will be on the record in doing so and also will be the Senators who backed him.

Re: Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CA

It's way too early for any non-catastrophic issue to have much effect on the 2016 election.

yeah that is what they said about obamacare looked what happened there. not once but twice.

Somehow the KeystoneXL gets tied into ObamaCare.... :doh

Ok... I fail to see how this backs up your point(s)..

in 2026, republicans are going to be saying "In 2028, voters are going to be voting against Obamacare." In the meantime, in 2016, Obama won't be on the ballot and all those feeling the pain will be saying "Well what the hell did the GOP do to stop my suffering--cut Koch Brother taxes."

True. But I think he's to a point where he really doesn't give a **** anymore about any of that.

If he does veto it, what sort of impact will it have on the Democratic primary candidates?
Might this be what Hillary is delaying for?

Now that the electorate has gotten a taste for and / or remembers what cheap gas is like, I figure that his vetoing XL will be remembered and interpreted as his wanting their gas prices to increase (never mind what his Energy Sec. Chu said oh way back when), and who's gonna like that? And want to vote for more of that?

Re: Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline Associated Press By DINA CA

Ok... I fail to see how this backs up your point(s)..

Oil from Canada is intended for export primarily to Korea and Latin America. I have read that Korea is already working on refineries that can reprocess the stuff to their needs. Oil is not a standard commodity even though we discuss it that way. It is pretty self-evident what my point is--Koreans and Latin Americans need gas and fuel oils. How many times must we circle the same pole?

This is the airplane vs car phobia. Even though people are exponentially more likely to be killed in a car crash, people are much more anxious if not down right afraid of flying than driving. It is much safer to pipe than truck or rail oil.

I have heard these ridiculous liberal arguments that the XL will actually increase the cost of oil/gas. I am sure there is, but I cant think of a single example when streamlining and making a distribution system more efficient raised the cost of the product.

Naw, they are going to be even more pissed at dem senators in 2016 because they won't get a chance to take it out on Obama.

McConnell will simply repackage KXL with another bill that Dems can't vote against.
You underestimate the master tactician McTurtle.

I'd prefer they get to work on a Transportation bill before the Highway trust fund goes bankrupt in May.

And of course Obama's budget is DOA next Monday.

Then we have the DHS shutting down Feb. 27--a sure loser for GOPs.

I continue to give credit to McConnell--as I have since election eve.
After all, we've seen more amendments voted on in four weeks than all of last year .

...and most of the Dem Senators running in 2016 are running from safe states. Its the Cons running in 2016 that have to worry about the elections. The exact perfect storm that worked against the Dems in 2014 reverses in 2016 to work against the Cons. The Cons get two years with a Senate majority.
